although i have never paid anyone for a verse im not oppossed to it. i just always think like if i pay x amount of dollars on a release i need to make x amount of dollars before i can make a profit. so ive always tried to keep costs down. as a producer ive always hooked people up with a beat if they do a verse for me because im not the type to take something for nothing i like to keep it fair for both parties. just wondering if anyone's heard of any upcoming artists that have bought verses and have been able to recoup the cost of the verse through album sales and downloads? that might sound like a stupid question but i always see no name rappers with verses they purchased or got a hook up or wahtever and ill listen to the song and the verse they bought is on point but the no name rapper sucks so im like whats the point. from a business point of view i think it would be more lucrative to be featured on someones album as opposed to paying them to be on yours.

with that being said if any artists are interested in bartering a verse for a beat hit me up

IF U ASK ME.....

NOBODY ON THE WEST COAST IS EATING EXCLUSIVELY OFF MUSIC SALES. INDEPENDENT HUSTLE DOES MAKE A FEW DOLLARS WITH THE RIGHT HUSTLE AND FOLLOWING. WHEN VERSES DONT SELL,I GET OUT AND DO SHOWS OR FIND SOMEONE 2 DO A PROJECT WITH. GOTTA WORK HARD 2 GET PAID OFF THE RAP TRADE!! GG

Who is it really hurting if a up and coming artist gets a bay artist verse for the dirt and they don't give it they all? I know cats is fans of artist and all but your just paying for a name at the end of the day. Im sure you would want your money worth but if that artist don't perform to his standards it's just going to make him look bad not the artist that paid for the verse.

I don't have a 9 to 5 this entertainment is my job -Ugly Nigga

@tay, i don't mean just retail music sales. i mean the music industry, merchandising, production, touring. whatever.

anyone that doesn't rely on a 9-5, sending a bitch or knockbusting.
I don't have a 9 to 5

I make good money throwin' shows...

1-I learned how to make money weeks before the events

2- I learned how to walk into a venue on show night zero dollars down...meaning I have taken care of the venue fee, my host, and security

3- I learned how to make not only the door money but the money for the next show while gettin the present money.

4- l sell my other sevices on show night to artists that look up to what I'm doing and want to get like me...I sell them on creating their image through t-shirts...I get them the best deal on 5,000 flyers and up.

5- Learn how to manage your door...don't let many people in for FREE try to ding everybody even if they get in half price because it's gonna make a difference at the end of the night.

I was collecting money everyday multiple times...I use to try to make excuses as to not meeting someone that was tryna give me the loot. In 2010 it was a good year for Ugly Nigga cause I was doin show after show...

My one mistake...I didn't pay attention to the fact that I was losing 1 venue at a time as owners were calling it quits and selling they establishments. Because I worked out of 6 clubs I wasn't trippin. Then at the end of Dec the last club shut down and now I'm beginning 2011 searching for more venues.

I made a good piece of change $500-$1,800 top side $2,500 pr show doin like 2-4 shows a month.

Now it's time jfor me to venture into selling verses and providing my considerable promotion push through the system I have developed that will not only promote my customers joint song we share but his/her intire album release...I just do more for your dollar than even you are aware of.

I work harder for you than you do yourself.

To purchase a verse call or txt msg 510-927-5333 Ugly Nigga range is from $800.00 to $1,000.00 with a full bundle package including 24 personal silk screen t-shirts/ 10,000 4x6 flyers/ full flyer routing to any city or cities of your 10,000 flyers to 1,000 stops.

I COMPREHEND YOUR POST.I WAS BASICALLY SAYING AINT NOBODY POPPIN LIKE THAT.I SEE A LOT OF WORKS IN PROGRESS THO WHICH IS GOOD. PUTTING OUT QUALITY PROJECTS COSTS MONEY. EVERY PROJECT WITH A FLYER IS NOT QUALITY.AND I DONT KNOW ANYONE GETTING RICH OFF MERCHANDISING AT THE MOMENT.
I WAS JUST SAYING SHOWS AND VERSES IS HOW I INDEPENDENTLY EAT. I PUT MY RECORD SALES MONEY BACC INTO MY COMPANY,NOT IN MY OWN POCCETS.GG

I USED TO eat strictly off music back when people bought CD's.
I have lost 40 lbs since then. ha
I aint complainin tho, I embrace dat struggle. There is still money to be made...and it's becoming clearer every day where it's at.

If you are an Indie rapper, 9 times outta 10 you aint eatin shit.
If you are an Indie rapper/Businessman, you have a chance.

ugly nigga: i like how you basically set up shop in the promoter role and did what you did in that space and now you're looking into selling verses and shit.

tay: that's interesting. thanks for sharing breh.

there's a couple artists i can think of that are all over the place with tours, i'd imagine that is pretty sustainable if you can manage to stay away from a city long enough that people don't get sick of you. other than that, there's probably not a whole lot of money to go around in the regional industry.

it's crazy how once you get a name there's more earning potential in selling shit to artists than there is selling shit to fans. that's how fucked up the business is right now.

Antilabs the NEW fan is the hobby rapper...because there are more rappers now then ever. So with that said you change with the times...artists have to pay for the business experience that you have. Good to know you make it happen on your end.

music today for artists can be summed up like this, you need to create a demand for yourself.

the fucked up thing is that even though it sounds simple enough, that is HELLA difficult to do and 98% of all people making music will never do it. most people don't have it in them from charisma to focus to business instinct.

regardless of what anyone says or thinks on siccness if what ugly nigga says is true he's done a good job at side-stepping that shit and diversifying.

HONESTLY......

I THINK PAYING 4 FEATURES IS AN INVESTMENT THAT IS BASICALLY DIRECTED AT FAN BASE CUZ THATS HOW THEY GET PEOPLE 2 LISTEN 2 THEM.WITHOUT SOMEBODY KNOWN WHO PEOPLE ARE FAMILIAR WITH,U GOTTA BE DAMN GOOD 2 SELL ANYTHING MUSIC RELATED. I BELIEVE AFFILIATION CAN BOOST RECORD SALES. I'VE GONE THE FEATURE ROUTE AFTER I WAS ALREADY ESTABLISHED AND IT DIDNT REALLY HELP ME SELL UNITS(IMO)..,BUT SOMETIMES HAVING THE RIGHT FEATURES OR AFFILIATION IS HOW THESE NEW ARTISTS GET ON IN THE FIRST PLACE.
