Examples? Show me a successful rapper who had nationwide acclaim prior to respect for their music in there home region (not counting MC Hammer).
A virtual unknown? Like their homies don't even know they rap?
I'm not sayin you have to have to some real street dude from the Crest, Rosencrantz, Queensbridge or the Murder Dubs to blow up. Not at all. But wherever you from, if people in your area don't feel your rap the chances are that nobody else will either. The exception here would be those social conscious ass rappers like Murs or Lupe cuz they have a very global appeal and fans that span many demographics.

I would have to sit down and go back in time for the past 5 years but there is quite a few.
You are going to back to the old logic: become a local/regional success and that tranlsates to nationwide success. that doesn't apply these days and even back in a time where record companies specifically looked at that, its still not a guarantee. I don't need to be the king of san diego to get nationwide success. As long as I make hits that get me on heavy rotation, sell major units, that's what matters. I see exactly what you saying but that doesn't apply in this day and age imo.

Then there's one, they're based out of Oakland but I didn't hear about them through anything Bay related; it was through a New York blog. They've also done work with people out there. I'm not too sure of their acclaim out here, so I could be wrong that they aren't established regionally, but that's just one example.
you think drake gives a shit about what a few people out of a million think of him on here. some of yall need therapy for hate. even though drake may sound on the soft side due to his topics and hooks...this dude got mad talent and gets money. all those that hate him would love to be in his spot right now. he's on top of the game.
