It isn't about knowing it all, it is about common sense. That is something lacking overall with underground artists, imo.

There are very few artists that make a career out of music, atleast on the level of say Young Money, don't kid yourself. The opportunities music offers the underground is a whole different ball game though.lol

The Radio isn't fucking with you because your music doesn't appeal to many, you ever think about that one?
there are thousands maybe millions of independent artists in the world and you make an ignorant statement that they are lacking common sense. wow. how many independent artists do you know for a fact that are lacking common sense? 200000? half a million? or just a few? the fact of the matter is that you dont know enough independent artist to determine that but you make an assumption based on the ones you know. so i assume that you have no idea what you are talking about.lol

i agree that most artists will not have a career on the level of young money.

what does this thread have to do w/ my music? i dont care if i get radio play or not. if you would like to talk about my music then feel free to search this site for threads about my music and post there.

You are out of touch with reality my friend. Those songs, just like the songs you are crying about, keep following me here, HAVE REAL FUCKING MONEY BEHIND THEM!

What don't you get about that? They are able to reach audiences all over the world because guess what, they have the money to reach them.

Lets say, and this is very hypothetical of course, you get a song on the radio? What is that going to do for you? How would you respond and capitalize off of it?

You think $10,000 is going to let you do that? $25,000 won't be enough. It is your game that is watered down, not the music folks....
im out of touch? one of those songs i listed doesnt even exist and the two of them are commercial jingles that i would rather listen to compared to some of the songs on the radio and i didnt even know there was a crabby patty song until now when i googled it but you claim they have "real fucking money behind them".

wow real fucking money behind an imaginary song. so you just like slapmaster you dont get it.

i will say it again idgaf about radio play. im not one of those artists that think im going to blow up one day if i get a song on the radio. fuck the radio. i have plans and goals with my music and it doesnt include radio play.

Let me tell you Phreaky, I have sold over 12,000 cds, and it was some garbage music to say the least.lol. I have rubbed elbows with plenty of independent artists and can make that statement based on my interactions and observations. Some had some real game but not many. I was gameless for awhile too, I can't lie. Most goals and dreams aren't realistic is the bottomline.

This thread has nothing to do with your music per se, but you are an artist complaining about what is on the radio. Usually those that complain feel they should be on the radio. My point is when independent artists get a song on the radio that gets some spins, they do not have the funding or know how to capitalize on the buzz.

Like I said, the math is simple. The streets are home to some of sharpest individuals I have encountered and the dumbest, go figure. In the end there are those that sit around and bitch and those that just do. The spectators need to be just that and not complain.... If you aren't on the field, you can't influence the game, comprende????

Well guess what Phreak dog? More people want to hear what is on the Raido than what you want to hear. You are out of touch with what is real and what is not. That is a recipe for disaster, not just in music, but in life. Get over yourself, you are not more than a hobbyist. Any goals and expectations you have for your music other than a little play from people on the internet is unrealisitic.

you have no idea what i want to hear on the radio. for all you know i like what they play on the radio but just dont like the lack of variety. evrything else you are talking about is bullshit because you are drawing your own conclusions and making your own assumptions. but since you know my whole life story from my posts on siccness feel free to make up some more make believe conclusions and faulty assumptions because you are doing a great job @ making an ass of yourself.

No folks, whoever doesn't is naive.

There is no doubt money is a big factor in all this, but if they put a song on the radio that nobody likes, eventually it will get removed from rotation. If kids are calling and requesting it guess what, the people with money put their plan in motion. The problem with independents is the plan comes too late or not at all. I mean having a hit record and only a couple thousand cd's on the shelfs if that, is not going to work. It may make you the "cool guy" for awhile, but is life about being the cool guy or end results? Depending on who you ask I guess....

But people with money are about end result.

This isn't about what you want to hear on the radio anymore, this is about enlightening you on reality.

Phreak dog, I am more sure of myself than at any other time in my life. The people I deal with on a daily basis know I am not a fool. If I am not mistaken, weren't you trying to get folks to check out your music a couple a weeks ago? Didn't you have some "Radio Friendly" music? Am I missing something or is it the kush that got my mind playing tricks on me????

That means you are starting to see the light. Everything is done for a reason, understanding those reasons makes everythig clearer. Don't be a rock, but a sponge. Nobody in life knows everything for sure and if they say they do they are lying. Consider this on the house because in a few years I will be getting paid well to lace boots....

edit* It isn't personal either so don't take it that way.

That's one way to look at it but it can also be like a business man saying Fuck a 9 to 5 and starting his own business.

There's other routes and outlets for musicians besides the radio.

So we have 7 pages of arguments and education. We have identified how the major music industry works and where independent music fits in there.

The question is, what do we do next?

My suggestion is that we stop fighting and start building relationships with each other. That is the foundation of business, relationships. I went to a google meetup last month and I found how willing everyone is to share and collaborate when working on an independent level. That is so different from the music scene here where people keep their relationships for themselves (myself included).

I remember attending a little meetup that Showtime had a few years ago. I met Gary Archer, the Money Tree twins, Silence, and others. I think using tech like meetup, google+, and the BART board, we can do more to organize the community. Maybe I'll start a what should we do next thread.

that is a good suggestion. what do you think it would take for us to apply that here?

on a sidenote........ we tried to unite independent artists from the 831 in like 2003 but i dont think much came from it. too many chiefs not enough indians. i feel like that was the biggest obstacle.

That's one way to look at it but it can also be like a business man saying Fuck a 9 to 5 and starting his own business.
then use that business mentality to underastand what the "radio" role is in the music industry. you want the game to respect your hustle, but ya'll cant even respect the radios hustle. they aint in business to support you. they aint no government hand out. if radio stations felt obligated to play their local "goods" then we'd have a country full of stations only playing their local artists...and then they'd end up out of business.

if you wanna start a fast food spot, as long as you follow state law and regulation, you have that business to your self to do what you want.
now if you want to buy a franchise, say McDonalds, you buy your own store, but follow McDonalds rules. if you want to compete with money then you need to step out your comfort zone and quit complaining.

the underground and mainstream are two different worlds. your either in one, or the other.
