When did Nirvana say fuck The Rolling Stones? Or Taylor Swift say Fuck Dolly Parton? Lady GaGa say fuck Madonna? The music evolves. Hip Hop stopped being a young man's game when Pac & Biggie died. When you had people like Jay-Z comeback over 30 and released albums with a more mature perspective. Ice Cube pushing 40 (or early 40's) and taking it back to being independent. Artist like LL Cool J (mid 40's) who has had a hit on most of his albums. Producers / artist like Dr. Dre (45 - 46) will outsell any newcomer hands down. Quincey Jones not producing his greatest album of all time until he hit the age of 50 (Michael Jackson: Thriller.) Talent has no timeline my friend.
Just one thing - Jay-Z was already 27 when he released his first album. He only became the top rapper when he was already past 30.

Also, Ice-T was born in 58 or something so he was also pushing 30 when he became a start. Same with Public Enemy (they were born before 1960).

So in your words / belief it's fuck E40, Richie Rich, B-Legit, Too Short, MC Hammer, Mac Dre, Cougnut, 2Pac etc. right? All them rappers are ancient to these young 90's babies, right?
No it's not fucc them but to a youngster besides E-40 and Too Short who are still actively making music today that still gets played today those artist are considered old school. So how could Tupac who died 16 years ago, Biggie who died 15 years ago, Cougnut who died 11 years ago, Mac Dre who died 8 years ago not be considered old school? To a 16 year old that is their parents music and every generation thinks that their parents music is ancient.

What Your Not Understanding Is That The Time HAS ALWAYS BEEN NOW!!

Just Because Were Getting Spins From Some Artists Out Here Dont Think The Record Companies Ever Left Here Scouting For Talent!!! Must Not Forget LA Record Offices Are Only A Few Hundred Miles Away From Cali.....And The Comment About People Saying Are Shits Wack Music Wise??? I Dont Feel That Vibe At All People From All Over The World Listen To Bay Area/Cali Music And Highly Support It We As Artists & Producers Cant Keep Having This Monkey On Our Back Thinking We Always Need To Prove To Make Everyone Happy!? Its Never Going To Work Our Region Has Always Had The Talent From Both Artists And Producers But What We've Lacked Is Consistency From Some Of Our Top Selling Artists! Its Like Most Artists Will Do A Shitload Of Mixtapes And Songs For What Purpose? If The Goal Is Not To Achieve Bigger Goals?? Quantity In Most Cases Is Not Always The Best If Quality Is Not Taken....Artists Out Here Need To Put Their Soul Back Into Their Tracks And Overall Stop Worrying About What The Next Man Dropped!!!

Bay Music Was NEVER Dead....Its Just Finally Some People Have Began Putting Out Quality Rather Then 20 Songs Of Useless Garbage Can Shit!!!
& The Next Subject Which Is Music Videos!!? Where The Fuck Do I Begin....Just Cause you Do A Song Does Not Mean You Should Shoot A Video!!!! Especially If Your Video Has You Standing In Front Of A Camera And Just Rapping With No Visuals Explaining The Story and Meaning Of Your Song!!!....I Personally Dont Care On The Quality As Far As HIgh Def Or What Not I Just Want To See Creativeness And How The Tie The Video Into Their Track!!!

My Opinion On This Matter!!

Being ancient is not Fucc you. I say all the time I'm hella ancient cuz I'm a 35 year old man in this game. That doesn't mean I'm saying fucc me. Just admit it, we are old, this is a young man's game right now and the people who have adapted to what the youngsters are listening to are still making new songs that this new audience will buy. From Juicy J to 2 chainz to E-40 to Bun B have been successful cuz they have embraced the youngsters while staying true to themselves. The difference between Lil Wayne and all the other Hot Boys is that he progressed. So if you want to hear ancient ass 90's music go ahead cuz I damn sure do but I know that it's not for kids today. It's not better or worst it's just different.

it's ridiculous to me that people think that because the sensibility of kids is not in tune with what they came up listening to, that it's an affront to their view of music and hip-hop. It's not even that serious, who gives a fuck when we can all listen to what we want to listen to.

Okay, we're making progress here. I agree with you on the fact that as being older we as artist embrace the youngsters. The problem is that love is not mutual. And yes, older artist like you and I were raised on embracing the music (our parents music) / the music we grew up listing to when we didn't have a choice. Hence the G-Funk era where we went retro with the music and embraced the music our parents listened to.

I'm not saying they have to listen to 90's music, but if your involved in something at least know & embrace the history behind what you stand for ya feel me? And I say that because Hip Hop / the music business is in it's hardest time. As well as everything else of course, but we've allowed it to fall off track. Now we can't get it back on track & a whole lot of youngster's music is hollow. No real feel, no longevity for it because they refuse to embrace the foundation they stand on to make that statement. Which is what rap was built on. Now it's all bubble gum music with no substance. It starts at the root of the problem by allowing any Tom, Dick & Hank to jump in & we supported them.

It started slowly and sure enough we got owned. The money came into play, major labels & the biggest of all Clear Channel buying the radio out & now we all listen to the same music everywhere. It's not like it was before where music would come out first in L.A. and different regions had different music on the radio. They lined us up like sheep & been slaughtering us one at a time. That why as independents we should build our youngsters and show them. Not just try & trail behind them while they continue to kick dirt in our face. That's like telling your parents fuck you very much for raising me ya old fucks, but it's a new world LOL! I'm just seeing it go bad is all. I don't expect a whole lot of you to understand because too many of you have high expectations from some of your new younger artist out the Bay & that's a good thing, but my perspective is beyond the Bay & I honestly don't see it getting better for the Bay & even much less for the state of Hip Hop / the music industry / the rest of the world... whatever you choose to call it.

That is my point the world has changed because of the internet and it will never be the same. Not only has Hip-Hop been changed but every form of entertainment. I don't think that the new generation doesn't respect the old school it's just when you see the state of these so-called legends today how can you have the same respect for them? To get respect you have to respect yourself first and carry yourself like the legend you want to be. It's just like the streets. It doesn't matter what you did in 93 if you're a knocc or a snitch now.

fuck lyrics. lyrics don't make shit hot in 2012 presence does.
now that you mention it, the overabundance and complexity of lyrics has never once spearheaded the rapid selling of records in the history of rap music

simplicity has done that about several hundreds times more, including in other genres of music..... even smooth jazz sells better than experimental jazz quartets

it seems like fans believe they have to speak louder for their underappreciated music to be respected the same...... or they have to make their music compete with another..... instead of how it might be in like movies.... a 'cult classic' is respected as-is without a competition of higher grossing films, its respected as a shitty movie that was dope.....

@ab.... it seems like since competition is a big thing in rap that the elders dont get respected by the youngins and the youngins dont respect the elders

you got people like ice-t coming out of pocket telling soldja boy to eat a dick

i think its changed now because for a while if you were dissing someone older in the game, they might have technically 'paved the way' for that young rapper to have his lane..but getting near 3 decades of rap older cats had nothing to do with the paving the way for hip hop

like mess dissing too short to me was out of pocket....whether too shorts old or not....due to too shorts history in the bay
