U wanna talk about record sales? OK
Techs album Absolute Power went gold with limited radio & video play. Lynch's Season album also went gold with absolutly NO radio or video play. No proper promotion & a ton of controversy behind the lyrical content. Not to mention a shitty review in The Source. Wayne is a mainstream artist who gets major radio & video play & is on the cover of every mag but still struggles 2 go gold half the time. Tech N9ne's Anghellic was/is light years ahead of anything Wayne has ever breathed on.
You talk about how Wayne has sold more records then guys like Lynch, X & Tech combined but fail 2 mention that these are underground artist. Wayne is pushed into a fuckin oblivion so he has a stronger precence then most artist esp an underground cat. Yeah Bling Bling was a hit but that song was on BG's album. Stop giving Wayne all the fuckin credit.
There was a time when Wayne was underground too & he was virtually unheard of. The underground cats I named have a world wide following. That's right world wide. Fans in England, Europe & beyond.
If sales mean so much like u say they do then I guess rappers like Hammer, Nelly, Vanilla Ice, JJ Fad & Heavy D are umongst the greats right?
Struggles to go gold? Why make up shit? Carter 1=platinum Carter 2=platinum
Block Is Hot=platinum Light Off=platinum Hot Boys=2X platinum. He has trouble?
Oh yeah, show me any kind of proof besides a Tech interview where that album is certified gold. Fuck outta here with that bullshit. His new cd issn't even at 100K even with the positive reviews. Anghellic was good lyrically, but only appeals to a certain kind of fan.
As far as Bling Bling, Wayne MADE that song. That's why Turk was taken of and Wayne put on for the video version. HE made it a hit. I'm well aware he was underground at one point, and he rose above it, something the rappers you ride for want to, but never were able to do.
And you listing those platinum artists to prove that sales don't mean shit, these guys are gimmick rappers! And Nelly and Heavy are great acts. Just because there music isn't "gangsta" or "wierd" enough for you doesn't mean they suck. Wayne's fanbase aren't the same people who buy those albums and if youd actually shut the fuck up and LISTEN to Carter 2, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
