They knew what they were doing but it's America not Mexico (and Cinco de Mayo is not connected to America overtly), that's the technical loophole.

Truthfully there should be a Chicano day and other "Ethnic" minorities should celebrate insert ethnicity American days. The only foreign shit we should really be celebrating on large or in public institutions are world holidays, like Global workers day.

yes cinco de mayo is an american holiday.

now, the high school did this for safety reasons. they have to look out for everybody's well-being, its not just cuz they wanted to devote all their energy into protecting kids showing off their Mexican heritage.

and i still think its fucking retarded to wear a shirt with an american flag on it on cinco de mayo. like whats the fight about? what are these kids so insecure about???? 364 days they get to proudly show their American pride and they obviously didnt, so because of one day that isnt WHOLEHEARTEDLY ROOTIN TOOTIN HONKY TONKIN AMERICAN they feel the need to wear the flag as a shirt. its insecurity, its backwards, its the same thing when kids would say "Gay pride? Well what about straight pride?"
what about straight pride? straight pride day is everyday of our muthafuckin lives. just like american pride. its redundant and unnecessary and they act like this "holiday" is taking away from their "Americanicity."

No ones doing anything to them. They know exactly what they were doing. No ones claiming u cant be proud to be an American. But doing it on cinco de mayo? you're a fuckin asshole.
100% true.

Actually, it pretty much is an American holiday - because cinco de mayo in Mexico doesn't mean much to them except for in a couple small cities.

Here are my thoughts/opinion......
I think those kids had a right to wear whatever the fuck they wanted (we are in America) even though i think they did it to disrespect mexicans...........Yes i think it was intentional and if they caught flack from other students from it then so be it!!!! We live in a nation where there is a lot of cultural diversity, if i can stand "columbus day" w/o being disrespectful to so called "America" then i deserve the same respect when it's my people's (no matter what nationality) holiday!
But of course people with feeble minds will take another route unfortunelty.

edit:
here is basically what bay2mi is talking about:
The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.

what are u saying homie? please elaborate.
We agree on alot Dubb, but on this I have to call it like it is... this is America, and unless it's connected to America, citizens don't have a right to force non-American culture practices on other American citizens, or have them change up in fear of violence. What the kids (with American flag shirts) did was divisive, low-key ethnocentric, but it was not wrong because this is America. I would never dare celebrate my city or nation's culture in a foreign place and then try to force other citizens from that place to not celebrate theirs.

Now if I'm missing something tell me... I think I am reasonable and making a good point but probably I am missing on something.

Na, I beg the differ. There was no problem with any "illegals" coming from Europe before. As soon as they're Indian looking, out comes the "illegals are taking our jobs and money" attitude.

It goes back to the colonialist mentality this country was built on, where certain people are seen as superior to others, please believe that...
I'm pretty sure people coming from Europe came at a time when it was a okay and everyone was doing it to help build this country.

Now we have rules. Apply for a green card. Pay taxes. Live your life.

So you're saying all the undocumented workers picking all the vegetables in the California valleys had nothing to do with making California so rich? Even though it's agriculture is the best in the country, one of the best in the world?

And yeah, now we have rules because it's not Europeans who leave most of their culture in Europe coming in. But it's Mexicans who bring it with them...

lol ya i know... i coulda swore u was from minn...confusion happens though when there is no location to be seen in said profile :)

Who'd figure Minn would have a huge Hmong or Somali populations? It'd be just as reasonable for them to have a large Mexican population though; if for no other reason than agricultural labor.
