Something similar happened at my school where these shit kicking cowboy kids started running through a lunch time celebration (music, games, Mexican food) with confederate flags.
actually, that's not similar to this story. AT ALL.

at least from what we know of it.

Last time I checked, just because it's cinco de mayo doesn't mean citizens of the United States of America are prohibited from displaying an American flag in public. This is fucking retarded.

Cinco de Mayo is a bigger holiday here than it is in Mexico so I guess wearing an American shirt isn't really wrong lol. But a Corona shirt would have been more appropriate.

I'm afraid of other races? That's hilarious.

The only thing I am afraid of is stupidity, and that comes in all shapes, creeds, sizes and colors.

Oh yeah, and I am a white girl, we don't HAVE any culture.

I don't know any people of Mexican ancestry who celebrate Cinco de Mayo. But I know plenty of white people that celebrate Cinco de Mayo as a reason to dress up sombreros and drink slushies with tequila and eat stale chips dipped in ketchup and cilantro.

LOL...

This is an outrage! White people doing anything they can to stop this Mexicanization of America!

Wearing USA flags should be considered a crime in itself for vandalization and defamation of the country's flag.

You know damn well that those kids wearing the American flags are "tired of Mexicans" and you also know damn well that the original poster of this thread more than likely feels the same way and wants people to be like "these beaners are taking this shit too far, we're in America!"

you have got to be kidding me.

Most americans arent tired of mexicans...they are tired of illegals.

The thing is, there are times where technically we are not doing anything wrong and are just enjoying our freedoms, but by doing those things you might cause a scene where you can be put in danger by creating situations. Every home country pride celebration I have ever been to the folks are already pumped up and feeling proud, whether in school or outside. It is not wrong at all to wear an American flag in any way except in desecration, but a group of kids wearing American flag shirts and bandannas to school on cinco de mayo can be taken as a silent fuck you to Mexican Americans. I think the school officials did it to protect the kids especially after I witnessed something like this going down and ending badly.

This isn't about the holiday, this isn't about wearing the flags, this is really about the fact that Americans are getting jumpy when it comes to Mexicans in this country. Let's face it, just look at what's going on in Arizona.

Obviously, when you look at things in context, you see WHY these kids wear their American flags on this particular day, and you can also see why there would be tension on both sides.

They're a bunch of little kids and I'm not defending a side or saying the other is wrong, all I'm wanting to point out is that the TENSION exists and it's heavy right now.

If you're respectful of all races, then you take the context of today in consideration with what you say and how you say it, how you act etc., And that goes for both sides...

It's fucked up on both sides, the kids wore the American flag shirts because they were passively saying, "this is America not Mexico, celebrate American heritage"...Which is cool but divisive. Then the principal mandating that kids can't celebrate their heritage in their native country because of fear of one of the country's populations backlash...Bullshit. The Mexican kids have a right to celebrate what they want, but they don't have a right to smash on others if they're not outright disrespecting them or their culture. We have riots in LA over Mexicans disrespecting MLK day saying it's a black day when its a day for all Americans especially minorities, and then we have blacks who then go on to disrespect Cinco de Mayo.

All in all, it's all bullshit. America reaps what it sows, and we all have to suffer, while the rich have a buffer. Celebrate what you want, do what you want, but don't tread on me...Remember that Americana?

yes cinco de mayo is an american holiday.

now, the high school did this for safety reasons. they have to look out for everybody's well-being, its not just cuz they wanted to devote all their energy into protecting kids showing off their Mexican heritage.

and i still think its fucking retarded to wear a shirt with an american flag on it on cinco de mayo. like whats the fight about? what are these kids so insecure about???? 364 days they get to proudly show their American pride and they obviously didnt, so because of one day that isnt WHOLEHEARTEDLY ROOTIN TOOTIN HONKY TONKIN AMERICAN they feel the need to wear the flag as a shirt. its insecurity, its backwards, its the same thing when kids would say "Gay pride? Well what about straight pride?"
what about straight pride? straight pride day is everyday of our muthafuckin lives. just like american pride. its redundant and unnecessary and they act like this "holiday" is taking away from their "Americanicity."

No ones doing anything to them. They know exactly what they were doing. No ones claiming u cant be proud to be an American. But doing it on cinco de mayo? you're a fuckin asshole.

confederate flag?

ya, you might catch a beatdown on any given day.

but one of these kids was jsut wearing an old navy shirt that had a flag on it, nothing even large, it was small.

have your holidays, thats cool.

....but you cant tell someone what to wear, & when to wear it.

do you think if someone was wearing a mexican flag shirt on ANY holiday they'd be told something? Nah.

& if you do, you are only kidding yourselves.

my mexican cousins even thought this shit was stupid.

If a GROUP of kids wore the Mexico flag on 4th of july they would get in trouble too.

Because the school knows what its about - it's not about showing pride for your country, its about getting a rise out of people and showing your discontent with a race of people. Neither of which belongs on school grounds during class, because it effects the SAFETY of everyone. Same thing with wearing political shirts - you can and will get in trouble for it.

Its bullshit the one kid got lumped in with the idiots, because he wasnt trying to start shit, but those other kids got what they deserved. They knew what they were doing, so lets not pretend they're all innocent.

Na, I beg the differ. There was no problem with any "illegals" coming from Europe before. As soon as they're Indian looking, out comes the "illegals are taking our jobs and money" attitude.

It goes back to the colonialist mentality this country was built on, where certain people are seen as superior to others, please believe that...
