yeah.. the big question is.. IS IT OKAY TO SNITCH ON A COP?????
LOL... It may never be ok to snitch, but on a dirty cop or a dozen? Makes one wonder...

I'm a great fan of Denzel, but as far as the movies, I liked Training Day better. Though of all of his movies, I love "Man on Fire" the best.

Actually, when a big studio considers doing an "African American" themed movie it will obviously look at past movies to see if its a feasable investment...

By making such movies, it gives new actors, screenwriters, and all other people in the industry a chance at a legitimate living... plus it immortalizes more aspects of black history...

Point blank, if these movies aren't profitable - they will no longer be made!

I'm sure most people in power would be just fine with that....
I feel u on breaking down the politics of studios making black films but I only support films that are good. Black movies come out all the time but most of'em I don't support cuz most of'em aren't any good. A lot of these films be about str8 up bullshit. And a bigger budget doesn't always equal a good film.

the movie was good, one of the best released this year...

well actually it did go into quite good detail, the movie is based on an NY times article on Frank Lucas life, sure it may have left out one or two scenes, like his childhood, how he met bumpy, etc...everything shown in the movie, happened almost the exact way he explained it in the article...also some people complain about the movie being too long, but yet if they add all those little details you are referring to the movie would be past 3 hours, and no one would sit through that...

lol cuba gooding was only in the movie for like 5 minutes, i thought he did a coo job for the little time he was on screen...
Yeah but @ the same time they went into just as much detail about that cop then they did Frank Lucas which IMO took some of the gangsta out of the pix.

They manipulated the story like all screen writers & filmmakers do. Its a good film but I don't want anyone to overrate the movie. And telling a story 2 the NY Times is still not gonna break the story down completly unless he was a consultant on the actual set.. Take away 30-40 minutes of scenes of that cip & u got a better movie IMO. The cops background & story was interesting but not that damn interesting.

So that's a no to my question?

And, "they" will not stop making "black" films, and there were not a handful of new black actors/screenwriters working on this film.

If movies aimed at black audiences weren't somewhat successful, then we would never get shit like The Inkwell, Love and Basketball, Jason's Lyric, and shit like that.

I ain't necessarily trying to talk shit to you, but I think you're putting a little too much ethnic significance on this movie.
Cool cool... the movies you mentioned are good... I'm just saying the oppurtunity to get a "black" movie with such a huge budget (and aimed at more than just black people) doesn't come around very often...

All that money being thrown around can open a lot of doors that many would not have found possible in the past... That is all

I feel you... most aren't that good! However, I feel that this movie definitely doesn't suck... and it doesn't deserve to be bootlegged to the point - that the studios feel will refuse the possibility of investing over 100 million into a future black themed semi-eductaional experience...

Y'all be cool!

heres the article the movie is based on...it tells you what you need to know about the guy as far as him being a "gangster",nothing else needs to be completely broken down, because it's irrelevent
http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/people/features/3649/

how did they manipulate the story? by leaving one or 2 things out? i dont understand that...the movie gets to the point right away, the beginning of the film is set when one era dies(bumpy johnson) and where a new era begins (frank lucas) the WHOLE focus of the movie is set on the time span between when Frank came into power, all the way until his arrest and downfall...so yes it makes perfect sense, that it shows what the cop was doing within that time span because it all connects in the end...

also you have to consider that their are 2 a-list actors in the movie.

If that aint gangster i dont know what to say. This aint no E-Gangster shit like your on.

Movie is dope and unless you got some evidence that he wasnt like he way he is in the movie, then he is a straight g.

Nitpicking like fuck, but did anyone else notice the close up of RZA's Wu Tang tattoo? Just took me out of the mood of the movie for a minute when I saw that... I dunno if they shouldn't of just put makeup over that or what, but it don't make since for someone in the 70's to have a Wu tat...
