I feel u on breaking down the politics of studios making black films but I only support films that are good. Black movies come out all the time but most of'em I don't support cuz most of'em aren't any good. A lot of these films be about str8 up bullshit. And a bigger budget doesn't always equal a good film.
Yeah but @ the same time they went into just as much detail about that cop then they did Frank Lucas which IMO took some of the gangsta out of the pix.
They manipulated the story like all screen writers & filmmakers do. Its a good film but I don't want anyone to overrate the movie. And telling a story 2 the NY Times is still not gonna break the story down completly unless he was a consultant on the actual set.. Take away 30-40 minutes of scenes of that cip & u got a better movie IMO. The cops background & story was interesting but not that damn interesting.

Cool cool... the movies you mentioned are good... I'm just saying the oppurtunity to get a "black" movie with such a huge budget (and aimed at more than just black people) doesn't come around very often...

heres the article the movie is based on...it tells you what you need to know about the guy as far as him being a "gangster",nothing else needs to be completely broken down, because it's irrelevent

how did they manipulate the story? by leaving one or 2 things out? i dont understand that...the movie gets to the point right away, the beginning of the film is set when one era dies(bumpy johnson) and where a new era begins (frank lucas) the WHOLE focus of the movie is set on the time span between when Frank came into power, all the way until his arrest and downfall...so yes it makes perfect sense, that it shows what the cop was doing within that time span because it all connects in the end...
also you have to consider that their are 2 a-list actors in the movie.

Who are you to judge who the fuck is gangster or not. Dude put hella crooked cops away and didnt snitch on dealers and made more money than you can ever think of having.
