the thing about style in general is that it can't get too popular or else it gets played out.
but at least he's finally getting some recognition.
Tha Mac (not mac dre) never got any recognition... he just faded away... that's a shame too. I would like to hear the game is thick but it's on tapes and vinyl (probably all out of print). At least mac dre's shit won't go out of print anytime soon. that's all that really matters.
Dre wanted the bay to blow up again, so overall this is a positive thing.
Another thing is that a lot of people just never heard of him before... how can you be a fan if you don't know OF a person? It's like I know there's some music out there that if i heard it, it would be my favorite new shit... but it's impossible to know what that might be.
It's like trying to feed steak to a baby... it's not on their level yet. But it's better than bumping G-unit and all the other mediocre rap going on lately.
The only thing is that if people keep biting Dre's style, it'll get played out. That would be a damn shame... but then again, everybody copies dre a little bit. I saw yukmouth hella acting like dre, saying yaddidameen every other word, rubbing his hands together and whatnot... on Horns and Halos, i noticed equipto uses a lot of the same rhyme structures that dre used...
I could say a rhyme like:
I twist a swisher filled with CHRONIC
mixing london gin with rocks and TONIC
IT'S IRONIC how suckers bite it
Spit this game hit mothafuckas like an ice pick
you know... rhyming the first word of a line with the last word of the previous rhyme. not to say that equipto stole it (or yukmouth for that matter) but dre's style was influential. Dre did that kind of flow all the time... of course, i could just be imagining things.
Even Too Short uses dre lines ("riding siding whipping dipping" on burn rubber by short and ON MY TOEZ by MD on his Young Black Brother album... short was saying california lifestyle on his cocktales album... that was an early dre song as most of you know.)
Squares and rappers alike liked his shit.
Music is something we all understand... some people need some lessons though before they can appreciate though, you know?
I found out about mac dre when he was performing with nickatina in 2002... and then i didn't pay much attention because he was hella drunk at the show, and didn't really rap at all... saw him again at another nickatina show... shit was cool but i didn't know any of his songs (i remember him doing be about your doe, and boss tycoon in concert...didn't know what they were called at the time though)... then I started listening to his albums... old shit and new shit... what can i say... it grows on you, but i could understand how someone might just hear one song and not think much of it. It's only when you hear songs like rapper gone bad or life's a bitch or on my toez that you really appreciate what he can do.
