Idea #2: Start a Bay Area Rap Fund and collect the necessary capitol it takes to break artist into the mainstream. 1) Donations/ Contribution would be made to an artist fund. 2) Rappers that are serious will pitch songs, artwork, ideas, etc...to the committee. 3) Committee chooses the best candidate and allocates funds towards developing that artist i.e: Production, Advertising, Videos, Payola...I mean Radio Marketing, and other expenses. 4) Artist becomes successful and must pay committee 50% royalties made from the project, money goes back to develop next artist. 4b) Committee chooses out-of-touch conscious rapper or over-the-hill "Bay Area Legend" and committee loses it's a$$ leaving many in the Bay with yet another reason why it won't "blow-up".....

but most young hot bay artists will want money up front because of ignorance. your only as strong as the machine pushing you and your product. skills alone dont pay the bills. most press a few thousand if that and in 2-6 months are harrassing distributors for there measley checks, thus creating conflict of interest business wise. once the potential artists understand the money doesnt come until you are succesful from a business standpoint, pay back the pressing, promo items, radio ads, etc. traveling expenses. alot of costs are not mentioned. once that - is erased then you can see some checks. $100,000 budget isnt shit on a national level. its percentages. you got millions in the bay. if you could get 2% support you would blow up. people need to wake up.

theres probably 100,000 rappers in the bay.

sales are so spread out. my point is artists should humble themselves, come together and everyone support the person that gives us the best chance at success. 100,000 sound scans and they will start looking. but a piece of humble pie and reality are needed.

your right

in 5 years regoin wont meen a thing.........you better build YOUR own fan base and store front........book shows, have merchindise.....its back to INDEPENDENT and you better gather all you can while its good. Majors are not going to pay top dollar but YOUR fans will so gather them up fast and steady if you want you enterprise to rise and sustain its self......

just my opinion
big labels are independent businesses as well. they just have money to hire a team. artists trying to do it all dont get very far unless your hungry and got a little money to make the necessary trips to create a buzz outside ones own backyard if that. it starts at home base. if your area doesnt support you no one else will. i think too many artists think that where there from gives them credibility off top. thats not the case. fans base is only as real as the individual spreading the word. you got to believe in yourself before anyone else. thats how this bay independent game started. music isnt as lucrative as it once was. thats why no one spending across the country unless theres a hot single already creating a buzz in that artists back yard.

it sounds like you are your biggest fan.

a good qulity product, mixed with constant LIVE SHOWS in your region and abroud will win you succsess fast.......if you have a good show performence and a good cd then you got 90% of the work done.... 10% is finding venues for shows, and a good producer, and a good quality studio......10% isent much because it is easy to find these things......as for money......i got out of the dopegame, got a regular 9 to 5 and sacreficed time and WEED money to save up to make my dream a reallity...
if im not mistaken fans buy cds. shows are a definate good source of revenue if you got that kind of buzz. quality music cant be overstressed. mixing and mastering included. i havent listened to your music so i cant say but if your encouraging the same lifestyle you just stated you left behind then you my friend got it twisted. but hey im one opinion but didnt come on this site to make enemies. i just feel alot more could be going on in the bay with the right artists and direction. once again my opinion.

True stuff....Unfortunately there are a lot of hustlaz' and not business men out here who liken the rap game to the drug game, which sounds understandable in a song, but couldn't be further from the truth in reality....

your starting to take my opinion personell.

thats on you. my statements are pretty clear. i think you can answer your own question on how its twisted, if you feel targeted by my comment. it was a generalization. if you go to school rap about that. if you left the game behind talk about that. if you a family man talk about that. in the end do you.

yeah i do hear whats on the radio.

we just went to HOW to make your own career(BTBB) into the "MESSAGE" in your song?..........do you listen to the radio? are you serious.......with that statement i think your on a personal "feeling" note.......music is expression and a way to artisticly tell YOUR story........(violence, drugs, fast cars, ect ect is all over the radio son) wake up!........so how do i got it twisted?
and i just listened and watched one of your videos. honestly im one opinion so it doesnt matter but theres nothing special about what your saying or even how you say it. i already know that about myself. lets not turn this thread around. good luck.

look folks.

im not saying you cant be succesful. i just feel in order for a bay artist to take it to the big stage a seperation from the pack is needed.what that seperation is, i dont know. if i did, i would help someone with my input. the only ones ready right now in my opinion is frontline. they have the whole package from a label standpoint i believe, and can talk about real shit. and put it in a rap. i think they hurt fools feelings because how good artists they are. atleast locksmith.they just dont have the streets support out here. but the streets are a small percentage of an audience. but in the end hip-hop is street influenced. it is what it is. its not always what you say but how you say it. the radio is a perfect example of that. but hip hop in general not just the bay is definately looking down. the bay has been down. so all im saying ultimately is do you. if your that family guy, theres millions of em. a dude in school. even more. just do you cause in the end that will take you further. not rapping about what 9 out of 10 people are rapping about. once again my opinion. good luck with all your music ventures krypto because if your the guy getting pushed to the forefront, you will get my 13.99

theres some reasons i dont really listen to a lot of bay music

first off

yall come with hot shit, then yall release some super weak shit
why dont you just, get rid of that weak shit? just dont release it

why after a little fallout... yukmouth and his friends talk really bad about eachother, then one makes the other one look like a complete bitch, and vice versa, then they both look like complete bitches.. after that, they retaliate, then they look like two retaliated bitches

(for example, him talkin reckless about rap a lot, that shit doesnt make you look professional, why would anybody wanna fuck with yukmouth if you are gonna get "exposed as a bitch " to the whole world after business doesnt go like it should have

thats probably the biggest part right there, like that Dj who wouldnt play fabs shit,

fuckin ridiculous

why dont you guys just think like...

"what would E-40 DO?"

ima yuk fan btw

(all imo)

soulja boy got picked up by a major i believe which allowed the spins and overall success. where is he now? he made a hit and im not hating on that. but honestly he was a one hit wonder i feel. wolf pack is on some other shit which allows him to be succesful. change. in the bay show me an artist with a lightweight buzz the last couple of years like a mista fab. no proven sales. yeah, there is that one guy that comes from nowhere with no money but thats because he got picked up and pushed outthere. its not where you from its where you at. nowadays rappers are picking off the marks outhere pretending to be gutter and the rest that comes with the struggle but lived there whole life without the struggles. that makes you who you are. what you been through. not what you say. alot of cats make it sound good but havent been through shit. its hollow just like the bay scene. just like bay artists, just like bay music. my opinion.
i feel you... you being from the gutter hood what ever has nothing to do with making hot music look at Kanye West... so i really dont wanna hear nothing about a rapper being hood strugglin or anything like that... p.diddy lived a good life... but i feel what your saying man.
