wow, peep this:

Giants offered to match Dodgers' offer to Juan Uribe
November 30, 2010 | 5:02 pm

The San Francisco Giants wanted to hold on to Juan Uribe –- enough to where they made the infielder a last-minute offer to match the three-year, $21-million contract he ended up signing with the Dodgers, according to a baseball source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the situation.

Uribe, who passed his physical on Tuesday to finalize his contract, will be paid $5 million next year, $8 million in 2012 and $7 million in 2013. He will receive his final $1 million in 2014.

Uribe’s agent was contacted by the Dodgers shortly after Uribe and the Giants won the World Series. Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti said he had coach Manny Mota call Uribe several times to talk to him about the club. Uribe and Mota are both from the Dominican Republic.

Uribe said he signed with the Dodgers because of the level of interest they showed in him.

“I was very proud,” he said. “It made me very emotional.”

Uribe and his agent, Barry Praver, were vague when asked about offers they received from other clubs, including the Giants.

Asked if he understood that Giants fans might be upset that he signed with the rival Dodgers, Uribe said, “I can’t control that. I’m not the owner of a team. Things happen.”

Uribe was respectful of the Giants and their fans, saying, “I have nothing bad to say about the team in San Francisco. I’m grateful for the opportunity they gave me. The fans treated me very well. That’s something I will never forget. I was able to play with a lot of emotion every day because of the support they gave me.”

I'm not happy, but i'm not bummed about Tejada. Dude can still hit, but I dunno about his defense. Luckily it's only 1 yr and we still get a draft pick from Uribe.'

Bring back Pat the bat!!! I do not want Derosa starting in left field!

i dont mind the signing of tejada than much. especially for one year.. but man i hated that that spot light celebration, he did after he got a big hit. i guess i wont mind it as much now. maybe we can find a better replacement before the trade line next year. and FUCK the dodgers for trying to steal all our players...

The Dodgers have been the most active team in the majors this offseason. They made an aggressive run at Aubrey Huff before he re-signed with the Giants last week for two years at $22 million and went just as hard at Uribe.

I was thinking the same thing as you guys when the Pads picked up Tejada last year, but I'm telling you, you're gonna be happy with him. Maybe not for that price, but he actually played very well at SS, just not much range. But Uribe didn't have much range either did he? His bat is still solid and he's one of those "tough" outs every time. Most of all, his passion and leadership is second to none. I'm assuming he'll do well for the Giants, wish the Pads would have re-signed him.

Looks like no Bartlett for us.
Yup, as of now, looks like Burriss will be the backup SS/2B...with DeRosa the playing all-over the field.

The one year deal for Tejada signifies that the front-office is hoping that Crawford shows up this season in order to take over in 2011. IMO, he'll be a non-roster invitee to spring training and we'll see him in September.

damn i'm still bummed out Uribe left. I'm going to miss that little fat fucker.

2 things Uribe will miss:
1.) SF fans.
2.) SF clubhouse. This is a team, down there it's a collection of 25 players.

lmao true. I mean even looking at Uribe there's no way in hell I'd think he is 32. Dude looks like he's in his 40s. I don't think it's a big risk because it's only 1 year. I have no worries about his bat(except for GIDP), it's his glove that has me slightly worried. Worst comes to worst Giants plays Burriss at ss and make a trade for a ss.
