A child therapist helps with improving the condition of children with mental disabilities, he/she does not raise them. I don't have to 'operate' your child the way a Nascar driver operates his car. A nascar auto-mechanic does not need a drivers license nor is he required to own a car in order to know how to repair a driver's car. Your analogy fails Shea. Therapist = doctor. Please educate yourself about ADHD, THEN respond to my post. ADHD is GENETIC DISORDER, hence my comparison of the disease to mental retardation, as it is also a genetic disorder. "This thread is about kids being lazy and doing nothing but playing video games." Children with ADHD hae an nability to sustain attention, particularly for repetitive, structured, and less enjoyable tasks (homework, chores, etc etc.) Children with ADHD LOVE video games, because it is a very stimulating activity, and prevents them from becoming 'bored'. The state of being 'bored' easily is neurological. It's not something they 'picked up' because of bad parenting.

I am not arguing that ALL lazy kids have ADHD, I am however arguing, that not in ALL cases, are parents to blame.



This has to do EVERYTHING with this thread, and the point that I was making. I argued that disorders such as ADHD are genetic, in which case bad parenting is NOT to blame. I posted evidence from a twin studies, showing that these disorders ARE in-fact genetic.

Again, ‘lazy kids playing video games’ MAY have ADHD, which is GENETIC, just like mental retardation. It is NOT something that can be blamed on bad parenting.

I was obviously not obvious enough for you, since you are still having a difficult time grasping the concept of a neurological disorder being genetic.

These milestones are dependent on the culture, gender, and age. Normal, being how the majority of children develop and adapt. Schizophrenia = abnormal. ADHD = abnormal.

Apparently, you have a reading comprehension problem. This thread is about kids being lazy and doing nothing but playing video games. THAT, is the parents FAULT. That has ZERO to do with the kids. Parents are supposed to set a prescedent FOR their children. If a child is LAZY, that is 100% THE PARENTS FAULT.

Your argument is that parents are ALWAYS 100% to blame for 'lazy kids who play video-games all day. Am I right? If I'm misinterpreting your argument then forgive me, and please correct me.

My counter-argument is that parents are not ALWAYS to blame, because some kids (ADHD) are genetically predisposed to ONLY being stimulated by such activities, as video-game playing. They have a neurological inability to sustain attention when it comes to tasks such as homework and chores.

Symptoms of ADHD can be seen even in infants. This disorder is present at birth. Case being, parents are NOT always to blame.

In no way am I defending poor parenting tactics, which as a result have conditioned poor work-ethic in children.

Like I previously stated, I am not defending poor-parenting.

But I am defending GOOD parents, who HAVE taken all necessary actions in an attempt to help their child, and still have a difficult time with the child's behavior.
