Guess you missed my 'recent gifts of cultural importance [paraphrased]' comment. Are you aware of the word contemporary?
And...what do you know about Jazz? I know you'll tell me how you know everything about chord progressions and dominant 7ths and all that...heh...Jazz, but let's be honest, you don't. Neither does most black America. I'd actually wager most Jazz aficionado are white male baby boomers.
Language...are you kidding me? You're actually going to try and throw out ebonics as a point of pride? Might as well throw in crack use.
Blacks in sports are cool but I don't see why you're bringing that up when we're talking about cultural boons the African American community has given us. However, I will wave on the trends thing. But trends hold no intrinsic value. I guess blacks who dress preppy and skater owe a debt of gratitude to whites, huh? LOL!
maybe ad hominem was not exactly the right term to use, but the point is you asking what he personally knows about jazz, chord progressions, etc is completely irrelevant when discussing black contributions to American culture. Further, your assertion that most of black America doesn't know about chord progressions, etc could be said about ANY ethnicity and is also irrelevant. Not to mention that your idea that jazz is enjoyed by mostly white baby boomers is little more than a mere assumption on your part, but even if true, does that make or break the point of jazz being a significant black contribution to AMERICAN culture?
I dont think anybody brought up "ebonics."
I dont see what blacks in sports has to do with this discussion since it is more the actual sports themselves and not so much the actual athletes that contribute to culture.
How do trends not have any intrinsic value with regard to culture?
