prove this point. you wont be able to try as you might but prove it.

personally, I still see WASP's as the pinnacle of American culture. hip hop ain't shit to old money.

And again you are talking about hip-hop, lol. Its funny how black culture just comes out hip-hop in your ears. Educate yourself, please.

Ive already eplained it, as did Mannish. Reading through the thread will do you some good.

Rap is not a culture, its a genre of music. Hip-Hop is a culture AND is just one aspect of Black culture.

You're actually saying the only influential thing Black people have done is create rap??? LMAOOOO. You need a serious history lesson my friend.
1. mtv/hyphy/bet ARE NOT hip hop. That's "rap culture." i never confused one with the other. that was your assumption.

2.no, im not saying that you idiot. its what YOU said. what I said was that you blacks in this thread have said nothing other than rap/hip hop as far as things of cultural merit that blacks have recently given to this country.

Really?

Music - jazz->rock->rap, all dominant American music has been influenced, stolen from, or dominated by Black poeple. Fashion - I shouldnt even have to speak on this one. We are the trend setters. Language - all the language that comes from us slowly trickles down into mainstream America until you have old white people using 10-year old slang. Sports - Nuff said (except for hockey, thats next!)

Like I said, cornerstone of American culture
Reality says so. For instance the only musical genre regarded as a purely American form of music is jazz (which ever other form of American music is derived from) which was invented by <guess who>. Black fashion gets emulated by damn near everyone in America and sooner or later it becomes white fashion, similar to how rock & roll became white music over the years. Black slang is incorporated into damn near every American's vernacular. You have 45 year old news anchors making references to things like "baby mama drama" and using prases such as "back in the day," etc...

Guess you missed my 'recent gifts of cultural importance [paraphrased]' comment. Are you aware of the word contemporary?

And...what do you know about Jazz? I know you'll tell me how you know everything about chord progressions and dominant 7ths and all that...heh...Jazz, but let's be honest, you don't. Neither does most black America. I'd actually wager most Jazz aficionado are white male baby boomers.

Language...are you kidding me? You're actually going to try and throw out ebonics as a point of pride? Might as well throw in crack use.

Blacks in sports are cool but I don't see why you're bringing that up when we're talking about cultural boons the African American community has given us. However, I will wave on the trends thing. But trends hold no intrinsic value. I guess blacks who dress preppy and skater owe a debt of gratitude to whites, huh? LOL!

Africans also created the library of Alexandria [well, under the direction of a white man but the fact is they built it!]. And I know you don't know what that is because you're an idiot. And that proves my point. Who cares what blacks did? Why don't you become the next MLK instead of thinking that wearing coogi jeans and stunna shades is of some actual cultural importance.

i did. i actually engaged in an intellectual conversation. true, it was one sided seeing as how Rich isn't much of an intellect, but I never exclusively attacked the man without addressing his points. Nice try though.

maybe ad hominem was not exactly the right term to use, but the point is you asking what he personally knows about jazz, chord progressions, etc is completely irrelevant when discussing black contributions to American culture. Further, your assertion that most of black America doesn't know about chord progressions, etc could be said about ANY ethnicity and is also irrelevant. Not to mention that your idea that jazz is enjoyed by mostly white baby boomers is little more than a mere assumption on your part, but even if true, does that make or break the point of jazz being a significant black contribution to AMERICAN culture?

I dont think anybody brought up "ebonics."

I dont see what blacks in sports has to do with this discussion since it is more the actual sports themselves and not so much the actual athletes that contribute to culture.

How do trends not have any intrinsic value with regard to culture?
