Giants assistant GM Bobby Evans said Tuesday that signing Bronson Arroyo remains a possibility.
San Francisco agreed Monday to a two-year, $23 million free agent contract with veteran right-hander Tim Hudson, but the club wants one more reliable starting pitcher to pair with Hudson, Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum. Arroyo, 36, posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 202 innings this past season for the Reds. He's one of the most durable pitchers in baseball.

It's gonna be the same story... pitching and defense, and that lucky hitting. This new ownership sucks ass, we have the money but after Rowand they've been scared to go after a power bat, they have to since they traded away the last good piece in our farm system for Beltran who walked the next season... nice rental btw.

hart is only worth a one year deal and hes not coming here. yeah unfortunately this front office is more concerned with keeping fans happy, and they went with keeping the familiar names. Pence is a good piece to hold onto, but 5 years, $90 mil is a HUGE commitment, as well as Timmy's new contract, and that eats up the potential for making other offseason moves.

According to Bay Area Sports Guy, the Giants have re-signed reliever Javier Lopez to a three-year, $13 million contract.
This confirms a report from CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. Lopez earned $4.25 million in 2013 while posting a 1.83 ERA and 37/12 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings. He was was able to parlay that success into a deal that will go through his age-38 season.

good move

Giants designated RHP Guillermo Moscoso for assignment.
The Giants needed to clear room on their 40-man roster, and Moscoso became a victim of the numbers crunch. The right-hander had a 5.10 ERA in 30 innings of work, including two starts, this season. The 30-year-old must now pass through waivers to remain with the club.

Giants purchased the contract of OF Gary Brown from Triple-A Fresno.
Brown's star has dimmed a bit since his breakout 2011, hitting just .231/.286/.375 at Triple-A last season. But the 25-year-old was once a top prospect in the game, and the Giants couldn't take the risk of losing him in December's Rule 5 Draft. He'll likely be given every chance to make the team out of spring training.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Hunter Strickland from High-A San Jose.
The 25-year-old showed why the Giants are eager to keep him with a strong performance at San Jose, posting a 23/5 K/BB ratio while allowing just two earned runs over his 21 innings. Adding him to the 40-man roster guarantees he won't be taken in December's Rule 5 Draft.

We have some good pitching prospects coming up within the next 2-3 years. Another Bumgarner/Cain type of pitchers. It's our inability to develop position players though. Since Posey we haven't really that that impact guy. Sandoval too inconsistent, weight issues. Belt and Crawford can be good when they're money, their defense is great but hitting goes cold. We can churn out pitchers but not hitters for some reason.... Would be nice to develop a McCutchen/Stanton/Trout/Puig type of hitter... those guys only come around every 10 or so years though.

Giants sent LHP Jose Mijares outright to Triple-A Fresno.
Mijares elected free agency and is now eligible to sign elsewhere. The Giants needed to open space on the 40-man roster to accommodate Javier Lopez, who re-signed for three more years on Tuesday. Mijares struggled mightily in 2013, posting a 4.22 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 49 innings. The left-handed specialist, however, entered last season with a 3.00 ERA over 264 career appearances.

what a snoozer of an offseason. We better get some offensive help from the non-veteran pile. These players want hella money tho. Robinson Cano is not worth what he's asking for. Neither is Nelson Cruz he should be giving a discount due to his cheating. These player associations as just as much to blame for PEDs

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants likely won't get a deal done with Ryan Vogelsong until next week.
Schulman reported early Thursday that the Giants were "moving toward a deal to re-sign" Vogelsong, but it sounds like it won't be finalized until after the holiday weekend. The Giants declined a $6.5 million club option on Vogelsong following the season, but his new deal is expected to be for at least $3 million guaranteed.

giants are still going for bronson arroyo unless they sign vogelsong

Giants non-tendered reliever Sandy Rosario and OF Francisco Peguero.

also, reports are saying that 5 minor league players were injured in a crash in Arizona. No names released, but some reports say that 1 is in critical, "life threatening" condition, while others are saying everyone is ok.

edit: Kyle Crick said everyone was ok.

Man, Blanks could be a fucking MONSTER with 40 HR seasons but the guy is always fucking hurt. Can't hit an offspeed pitch to save his life. I havent given up on him yet though so hope the Pads dont trade him.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com hears that the Giants are interested in Michael Morse and Corey Hart "but expect dollars/years to go beyond their appetite."
The Giants would be OK going into the season with Gregor Blanco as their left fielder but are exploring possible upgrades. However, it doesn't sound like they'll be willing to pay much to make something happen. Morse is coming off a disappointing, injury-shortened season, while Hart missed all of 2013 due to injury.

Tim Hudson (ankle) will start throwing soon and begin running in January.
Hudson is coming back from surgery to repair a broken ankle but is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training. The 38-year-old posted a 3.97 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 131 1/3 innings for the Braves this past season.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean said Monday that Jeremy Affeldt (groin) is nearing 100 percent.
Affeldt missed most of the last two months of the season due to a left groin strain, but it doesn't sound like he'll be behind at all in spring training. The veteran left-hander posted a 3.74 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings this past season.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants have "checked in" on Alejandro De Aza.
The White Sox are expected to trade De Aza with Adam Eaton now in the fold. He's projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to make $4.4 million in his second year of arbitration this winter, which isn't too much. He would be used in left field, pushing Gregor Blanco to a backup role
