Giants manager Bruce Bochy said infielder Juan Uribe will still receive regular playing time once Edgar Renteria returns from the disabled list.
It will be interesting to see how Bochy juggles the playing time between Renteria, Pablo Sandoval and Freddy Sanchez, but Uribe hardly deserves a seat on the bench. The 30-year-old utility man enters play on Monday with 10 home runs (tied with Aubrey Huff for the team lead) with a team-leading 41 RBI.
Emmanuel Burriss (foot) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno on Monday night.
Burris was 3-for-14 (.214) with one RBI and a stolen base in five games with High-A San Jose last week. The 25-year-old infielder is currently working his way back from surgery on his left foot in March.
A source tells Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com that Mark DeRosa was scheduled for more tests on his ailing left wrist on Monday, and that no decision had been made regarding surgery.
A source close to DeRosa says that he will undergo season-ending wrist surgery this week, so it sounds like something of a foregone conclusion at this point. According to Urban, DeRosa is said to be eager to have the surgery as soon as possible, but he and the Giants want to see if the numbness is related to the ruptured tendon sheath in the wrist before proceeding. It's possible that a decision could be announced as soon as Monday night.
Joe Martinez, recently recalled from Triple-A, will start for the Giants on Tuesday.
Martinez will take the injured Todd Wellemeyer's turn this time through the rotation. The 27-year-old was 5-2 with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP with Triple-A Fresno before his recall.
