Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) has been taking batting practice off the Giants' coaches all week and could get into a simulated game "soon" according to Hank Schulman.
If Sanchez can provide the high batting average that drove the Giants to acquire him, he'll be a welcome addition to their offense. However, Juan Uribe is hitting well in his stead and Sanchez hasn't been the most consistent hitter over his career.
Aaron Rowand sustained a mild concussion and two small fractures of his left cheekbone after being hit in the head by a Vicente Padilla fastball Friday.
Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that he didn't know whether Rowand would need to be placed on the disabled list, though it will almost certainly depend on the severity of the concussion. Bochy didn't believe that the headshot was intentional, telling reporters, "In that situation, he's in a jam. You're always going to wonder what the intent was. Certainly in that situation, that's not when a pitcher is going to hit somebody."
