lol, if the RIAA decides to go ahead and start holding individual downloaders accountable for copyright violations, how many of YOU *points his finger at everyone* will be getting sued?

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell they can get info as precise as all the way down to the individual person that's downloading the music. I know big brother is watching but damn.

What kind of impact (if any) do you think this will have on the consumers? I figured the Recording Industry was going to do something drastic like this sooner or later. It's not like downloading someone's music for free is something LEGAL or anything. Do you think this will backfire on the industry? Causing the general consumer to resent the fact that the RIAA targeted them for doing something that they weren't supposed to be doing in the first place?

You can call me a liar then, if I DL an album and feel damn near every track I will go pick it up...How bout the artists start looking at the real problem...remember 6-7 years ago before Clear Channel took over KMEL...how many artists were u hearing on the radio? 15 DIFFERENT RAPPERS? Now how many? 5? 6? Remember when MTV used to play music videos? Remember when BET used to run them 16 hrs a day? I dont get how artists can get pissed off at consumers. If the music is being promoted like it was when many people were able to bumble wouldnt it do just as good now? Not to mention the fact that theres an oversaturation of artists in the industry now...I mean, if you watch some of the anti-bootlegging commercials, you gotta ask yourself a serious question...do people dubb Busta Rhymes whole CD...or just "Make It Clap"?

All of that MTV, BET, Clear Channel bullshit is irrelevant. The problem is the piracy. We all know it. Some are in denial and try to justify why they pirate music; "I wanna hear it first", "Too much weak shit, gotta hear it first..", "The game is oversaturated, I wanna make sure I know what I'm buying", "CDs cost too much", etc ...

The labels can't promote as well as they did 6-7 years ago because they aren't turning as much of a prophit as they were 6-7 years ago because the piracy factor was not relevant. Shit, if the labels had the money to promote more, that would just mean more consumers would download.

And you know I have to have my daily analogy, lol ....

Say you're a painter and you rented out a place to display and promote your art for sale. Let's say someone is making knockoff paintings that look just like yours and GIVING THEM AWAY right down the street from where you're trying to sell your paintings. After a while, you're not going to be able to afford renting a space to display and promote your art because you're not turning a prophit. Why would someone BUY your paintings if someone is giving paintings that look just like yours away right down the street. You can't blame anybody except that mufucka that made the knockoffs of your paintings.

I dont know dogg, I understand what your getting at but the bottom line is bootleggers have always been around, they are around, and they will continue to be around. I agree that internet piracy causes a decline in sales, but you also have to agree that being brainwashed to like the same 6 rappers by the media hurts it even more. KMEL used to be a breeding ground for originiality in music during the "I Got Five On It" years, and now it has become your typical puppet clear channel radio station. If people hear MORE artists they have MORE music to choose from and will buy MORE cds, but as long as its only Snoop, Jay Z, Nas, and 50 Cent getting play on MTV and the radio only Snoop, Jay Z, Nas and 50 will reap the benefits of good promotion.

Another thing is sales dont lie. You do occasionally hear of Eminem and Jay Z bitching about bootlegging, but not as bad as artists like Busta Rhymes and Puff Daddy whos sales have deterioirated as a result of lack of quality instead of bootlegging. If an artist isnt bringing something creative to the table then why would someone pick up a whole CD for a song like "Make It Clap"? Eminem, Jay Z, Dre, Snoop and a few other artists are selling just like they used to (Chronic 4 million plus in 1993, Chronic 2000 4 million plus in late 1999).

If one steals anything (even one slice of cake regardless of their unsuccessful attempt at justifying why they did it), one should be punished. Simple as that.

Piracy turns into lack of prophit for the labels. The result - less artists get deals, and that means less artists for the consumer to choose from.

If there were more artists, that would just mean more mufuckas gettin they should bootlegged. Bootlegging HAS been around but you can't compare bootlegging 10 years ago and bootlegging now. You just can't.
