About the wedding cake theory, that is not even relevant the industry is so big that its more like a factory with millions of cakes and one crumb that you steal. It does add up with so many people but realy how many of these people were going to buy a CD anyways, not a lot. It was proven that even with the bootlegging your music can sell fairly well 50 cent sold a shit load of albums even though people like me bootlegged it a week before it was released. You still see all of these other artists on TV and they have millions of dollars so is this really as big of a problem as they make it seem. I do download music but mostly because I am not wasting any money not even 10 dollars on a CD with 3 good songs its just not worth it.

Mr. Peete,

I agree that it's no coincidence that the quality of Bay Area Rap has fallen off since the rise of Napster, and other MP3 swapping sites. The rappers are not drawing as much profits which could affect the type of producers they may have on there next album.

Do you think you could give us an example of what a made up rappers would draw profit wise before MP3 era? And what they would draw now with Kazaa and WINMX being a source of download?

I'd think that would be interesting to see how much it hurts there pocket.

THANKS

Hey Tact Out, remember we also used to sit by the radio with the blank tape in the deck recording all those hit singles on the radio.
DAMN!! This shit brings back memories, I remember doing this back in the days. I think it was 91 when MC Breeds "Ain't No Future if your Frontin" was hot I remember waiting 4 hrs for KMEL to play that damn song so I could record it. When they finally played that shit and I got a chance to record it I was the happiest boy in the world.

Too many ppl to watch I think.. I thought it was about those who share files not about those who download. At least here in Finland downloading ain't illegal, sharing is. So RIAA can´t affect that part in here. Don't know how in other countries..

And why the fuck are they harrasing individual ppl, when for example in Asia over 90% of software, music, movies etc... are illegal copies. And those are sold in normal stores..

Yeah, that did bug me out. Plus in that song he was all talking about his girl bothering him and his lyric went "hit me again and Ill break your wrist." All agressive on a chick, that aint him.

Didnt he say that he never had to use profanity to sell records? Hmmmmmm.

File sharing isn't going to stop. You will still find those that will get pass things. But our technology is vast, and RIAA can draw the funds that can deplete the piracy process. The bottom line is respect. Artists make music for the public to enjoy, and to inspire. If you enact in piracy, you are disrespecting what they are doing for the community, for the world.

I agree that cds are overpriced, etc. But there are companies out there that are working on this (hint, hint). It's not the artist that bumps up prices all the time, it's the retailers (6+8 plus tax) or the chain of artist to distributor to retail (6+5+5 plus tax). The circle is forgetting about the consumer, which makes things happen.

Also, clearchannel is a factor (www.clearchannelsucks.org). They control a lot of the airwaves today. But my opinion is that if you want diversity on the airwaves, you need to network and support your local artists, or any artist you like for that matter, and help get their name out. Request them on the radio, on tv, etc. If you want change, then help make it happen. Corps will listen if you come in masses. But if you hide behind the scenes, and voice everything underground, the sounds you crave will stay underground.

Peace,

What would be the difference?
What I meant was that u can (at least in here) download as much illegal shit as you want, but if you are sharing (someone else is downloading from u) it's illegal. (In theory, no one is watching what you share)

I've downloaded & got plenty of albums for free & I enjoy the music.... but I'm not gonna lie to myself & act like it isn't skanless as fuck... This internet shit is ruining the music industry... why you think the bay rap game is hurting & no one (including graphic designers like myself) can't make the type of money that we should?? Cause no one has to buy albums anymore - No money is circulating because there are no consumers... Artists spend a lot of money recording albums & cannot turn profit because everyone steals their shit.
I understand why people download - but please don't try to act like it isn't wrong...
