Why would someone BUY your paintings if someone is giving paintings that look just like yours away right down the street. You can't blame anybody except that mufucka that made the knockoffs of your paintings.
so what youre saying is that the consumer should fork out a ridiculous amount of money for a cd to make sure labels have enough money to buy radio slots and promotion for their one hit wonder artists? come on now. listen to yourself. you convinced yourself that fans havent been ripped off for their entire lives buying cds. you can go ahead and feel good knowing youve done the right thing by dropping 20 bucks on a cd that you know is lucky to have 2 good songs on it, for the sake of being nice? what kind of sucker shit is that?

Every time an article or discussion of this topic comes up a lot of people won't be honest with themselves. In many cases, new cd releases are on the net at least a week before they come out in stores. You sit there and see this and think "Gee, why should I wait until this is released in stores and pay anywhere from 10 to 20 dollars from it when I can download it for damn near nothing?" Along with this most people have friends who do the same thing. Let's be honest, most people really don't give a fuck about having the liner notes or cd covers if the music on the actual disc is fucking wack! The fact of the matter is no one in their right mind is gonna turn down something free. If you had a bar on one street and another bar directly across the street but only one is giving away free alcohol, which one are you gonna go to? The way the world is today, people feel like they should have something in return after the government rapes them on their paycheck along with rent, bills, food, gas prices, etc. Gettin some free music is more appealing than spending your last little bit of change on a cd. You can buy a 50 pack of cd-rs for about 10 dollars. Most broadband internet connections average about 40-60 dollars a month. So let's say for an investment of 50 dollars a month, you can get 50 cd's off the net and all you pay is for blank cd's and internet connection or just go and buy maybe 4 cd's at a store. I know there are some dumb ass people in the world but that is simple math. All those "CD prices are too high" I'm tired of wack music" "If I like it after downloading I'll buy it" is complete bullshit! Why go buy something for 15 bucks you just got for free? Maybe if it's gonna be a collectors item or the cd has a special meaning to you but goddamn most people don't have money like that. Back in the day, you were lucky if a music store had a listening station to here samples off an album. Most albums were bought off rep, prior listening of their other albums, word of mouth, or curiousity. The "If I like after downloading I'll buy it" holds no weight.

So to end this, we all must realize that this shit is a business. If one store(the net) can do better on prices than another store(RIAA) everyone will shop at the better store. You don't have to graduate elementary school to know this.

There goes that bullshit about "droppin 20 bucks on a cd that you know is lucky to have 2 good songs on it". Don't get me wrong, I definately understand that there is a lot of wack shit out there. That's why there are listening stations at the record stores. The fact of the matter is the consumer that sits at his/her computer downloading whole albums is a lazy bastard that has been spoiled by the technology that allows him/her to "preview" (I use that term loosely) an album.

I haven't convinced my self of shit. I too am a consumer. So now all of a sudden the consumer been getting ripped off? Bullshit! That's just another way to justify the fact that you're stealing. If there was no internet and no way to get the music for free, you wouldn't be trying to convince yourself that you've been getting ripped off. Like MrSkrilla said, people are not being honest with themselves.

yall heard of this new rapper from El Cerrito. Forget his name, though. Hella tight. I was in JOnes and Harris the other day and I heard it. I bought 2 cd's. wait a second, maybe that goes against what I was sayn.I actually bought 2 CD's. I got C-Bo and the papertrail cd from Jones and Harris. I would say the only reason I bought em isbecuase i couldn't download wm. C-Bo shit is not online. I dont know why. But his album, man it was everybody rappin on his album BUT Bo. His songs ws cool, but the nigga only had about 3 songs onhis own \album. He shoulda said it was a compilation. But when you see thatnigga face on the cover, you just assume it is c-bo album. Damn, that common sence. That was hella shady. See, that's why muthafuckas download. The other CD is cool as fuck. they got it in headphone player.

so niggas b real about it. we download. so what. i'm not spendin money on shit if i dont have to - that's just the way it is.If ii coulda got papertrail and c-bo cd online, I woulda BEEN done it.

But, I will say this. SInce C-Bo let me down, I'm not buyin shit from him again. Download. I only bought it becuase it was there and I was like, "Damn, this the new C-Bo". But after fuckin my money.... fuck him. He gotta earn it. Maybe if he drop a couple of cool albums in a row, I'll fuck wit him again. papertrai earned my respect. i will buy they shit until they fuck it off. if they drop some weak shit and fuck off my respect, then im downloadin they ass to.

Kodogg- I feel you on that shit. I think bottlegging can only help some artist blow up. You download one song and you might think it's tight and if you can't find any more shit on that artist your gonna go to the store and buy thier album. I honestly think that bottlegging does more good than harm.

Remember when yall were little and you used to dubb your homies NWA tape? SAME FUCKING THING.

Remember when you used to go to the flea market and buy a Run DMC tape knowing god damn well it was a bootleg. SAME FUCKING THING.

How come none of us was hootin and hollerin back then about shit? Do you know it costs more to make those cassete tapes than it does a cd?

It costs like 20 cents to make a CD. If the record companies were to charge 2 dollars per cd, thats ten times profit. Besides dope, what other industry has those kinds of profit margins?

The profit margins on CDs as they are right now are ridiculous, and thats why we downloading shit!

Why doesnt the RIAA try to stop the companies that sell blank cds? Its fucking obvious that all those blank cds are being used to burn music. Nobody buys 100 pack spindles for backing up shit!

Or, why dont the record companies start selling blank cds to make up some of their money in this downloading day and age. I mean, its not like its ever gonna go away.

MELO TRAMA: FOR ONE.... TO COPY A TAPE, YOU HAVE TO RECORD IT IN REAL TIME, SO YOU GONNA SIT T HERE AND DUBB A 60 MINUTE TAPE FOR 60 MINUTES.... BUT WITH MY CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET, AND KNOWIN WHAT IM LOOKIN FOR, I CAN DOWNLOAD 50 SONGS OR MORE IN AN HOUR OF TIME.... SO YOU TELL ME WHY THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN DOWNLOADING VS DUBBIN A TAPE??? AND THERE WERE PEOPLE DUBBIN TAPES AND SELLIN THEM BACK IN T HE DAYS, BUT NOT LIKE IT IS NOW.... THEN YOU USED TO NEED TO "KNOW" THE PERSON OR HAVE SOME KINDA CONNECTION, TO DUBB SOME SHIT.... NOW ALL YOU NEED IS A COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS, AND THERE YOU GO, ALMOST ANY MUZIC SONG OR ALBUM IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD....

I ACCEPT THE DOWNLOADING, ONLY BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I CANT STOP IT, SO NO USE IN TRYING TO FIGHT IT... HOWEVER I DO BELIEVE IT DECLINES SALES, AND AT THE SAME TIME, THERE IS TIMES WHEN YOU GET A SALE, CAUSE SOMEONE LIKED A COUPLE SONGS OFF YA SHIT, THEN THEY ACTUALLY BUY YOUR ALBUM, SO ITS KIND OF A 2 WAY STREET....

ALSO ANY WAY THEY CAN STOP IT, THERE WILL BE A WAY OF GETTING AROUND THAT... SO ITS JUST SOMETHING THE INDUSTRY IS GOINGT TO HAVE TO STOP THEMSELVES, AND THATS BY ENCODING THE CD'S THEY PRODUCE, WITH SOME TYPE OF VIRUS, OR THAT BLAOCKS ALL INFO FROM BEING READ IF ITS NOT IN A CD PLAYER.... BUT LIKE I SAID, EVEN THEN, THERE IS SOME3 NERD OUT THERE, THAT WILL GET PAST THAT ENCODING, PASS THE INFO ON, OR BUILD A WEB SITE SHOWING YOU HOW TO DO IT, THEN, WERE BACC TO DOWNDLOADING AGAIN...

WE AS ARTIST, PRODUCERS, CEO'S HAVE TO LEARN TO BATTLE IN THESE CONDITIONS, I HONESTLY DONT SEE IT COMING TO AN END.... EVER!!!! SO WHY FIGHT IT....

I TELL PEOPLE TO DOWNLOAD ALL MY SHIT OR LISTEN TO IT, EVEN LET THEM HEAR IT FOR FREE ON MY WE SITE, ON VARIOUS OTHER SITES LIKE WWW.NORTHERN-RIDAZ.COM AND WWW.SACTOWNRADIO.COM AND PEOPLE CAN HEAR MY SHIT, I JUST TRUST IF THEY LIKE IT, THEY WILL GO BUY IT.... IF THEY DONT, WEL WHAT CAN I DO??? BUT MAYBEE THEY TELL SOMEONE, AND THAT PERSON BUYS IT....

Hey Tact Out, remember we also used to sit by the radio with the blank tape in the deck recording all those hit singles on the radio. We knew what song we were seeking, and it was always top of the charts music. I know you had a few of them tapes. I had hella them, and I never bought the albums.

And a bootleg tape back in the day was hella easy to come by. All you had to do was hit up the flea market in San Jo.

Also, I remember dubbing tapes in hi speed on my old deck. Dont you remember dubbing your friends tape and Public Enemy was sounding like Alvin and The Chipmunks on the hi speed?

Not trying to argue homie, just trying to back up my statement.

Of course its a much larger scale these days, but im just saying this shit been goin on for awhile.

Its just that the music companies have had such a mark up on cd prices that were uncontested for so long. Now they scared cause we taking back after all those years of robbing the public.

Bootlegging hurts Record companys...

but they need to find a better way to fight it, because those people they sue, are those same people they want to buy there cd... you can't punk someone, then make them buy from you... it'll make it worse.

personally I hope all MAJOR labels and corprate ass labels... Fold and call it bankrupt. There tactics piss me off. There greedy - I do not buy CD's because they are to much money. Even if I like it, I won't buy it for 20 bucks --- you can easily sell a CD for under 10 bucks and still make a profit... they're selling a product thats not worth buying. Same reason people shop at Wallmart, its cheaper.

Maybe all those labels will go broke, we can start at ground Zero again. Have independent labels, as powerful as another label. Only the shit the "People" like will be played on the radio. DJ's won't have to play music with guns at there head ect. Bullshit will leave, and the good shit would stay. Indy's don't have as many middle men. They could sell there CD for under 10, and even Distrobution would be ok, cause they'd still get a few bucks a CD.

I'm dreamen' won't happen... but it should happen

They're not going after downloaders, they're going after file sharers. They know once the file sharers (who are committing a punishable crime) are stopped, there will be nobody to download from.

Well, if we all are on a file-sharing program such as Kazza, we are all file sharers. Therfore, they can file lawsuit on anybody who has music files in thier shared folder.

No, only if you have sharing turned on (which the majority of users do) but some don't, and they won't have to worry...

They don't know what songs or how many songs you have unless you have sharing turned on so they can see it. They can't go after random Kazaa users because how would they know they have something illegal?

PEETE, i download damm near every cd before i buy it. and if its tight that dosent mean ill buy it. now if the cd is classic, or theres just something about that hits me, or every track is bangin. then ill go out and support when i get enough money to buy it.

also from my perspective it goes both ways, because im working on putting a cd together as we speak. and the thing is when my cd is finished im going to rip it and put it on mirc. WHY????? because its gon happen anyway.

everybody wake up its gonna happen, no matter what you do, what anyone says, or what anyone tries to do.

and yea i aint break bread for some weak shit or some shit thats cool. better come with heat or i aint touchin it real talk.

and dont give me that poor artist bull shit, cause i aint feelin it one bit
