selling out is doing something "bigger" for bigger money when it aint you.....artist growth is doing something thats hopefully "bigger" for bigger money, but because its you........

I didnt like Baby Bash shit when he lightweight blew up, but now that im older i respect him for that. and now that im not so BART'd out and expanded my mind to music in general, his Baby Bash shit is slap...... as opposed to his Baby Beesh days.......

in my opinion, selling out = the type that goes against their own morals and beliefs to advance in success/popularity.

i don't think its wrong to achieve mainstream success, as long as quality music is put out and I feel the artist is authentic and isn't just simply a marketable product (an artist who is just simply an image)

WHEN RAPPERS START TALKN ABOUT ALL THE SHIT
THEY GOT AND HOW GOD THERE DOING AND HOW MUCH
BTR THEY ARE THAN YOU THATS WHEN THE MUSIC
IS JUST NOT AS GOOD
it's a tough argument; why would someone continue to talk about the struggles when they aren't going through it any more, especially since they are achieving a lot of success? life changes, thus the content changes. however, i can understand hearing that regularly is annoying.

selling out to me is when you make music that has nothing to do with you strictly because people will buy it. its a tricky situation though, because there are rappers that dont make music for the love of it, just for the money. these guys will make any type of song whenever possible just to try and make more money. i dont have any respect for those artists

i would say do whatever makes you feel better as a musical artist and not to be concerned about whatever the fuck is going on out here in the bay area music scene, cuz these muthafuckas has set themselves 5 years back musically. go around, under,or over the obstacle and take your act on the road..

An artist has to define the music, not the other way around. Look at Baby Bash for instance. He went the pop route, is eating and is still doing him from what I see. You have to be secure with you to make that kind of stride. Make some radio friendly music. Any business is about making money, artists on the radio make money. I don't understand why artists wouldn't want that to happen. Age and maturity is all I can say.

You are too talented to not get that kind of shine. The Latin Market is waiting as you already know. Make it happen, I wish you the best.

mayne @radiostatiorep if you are at kmel you know how many songs ive brought in an been shot down lol
My name actually started as a joke, but this is the very reason I picked it.lol. Keep making those singles, one is going to catch. When it does, be ready to drop that album to capitalize on the buzz. KMEL is one station. The valley stations and markets with latinos is where you want to get those to. The Bay Area in general is rough on their own artists.

My opinion is fuck making songs for the radio, know your fan base and target your fan base. Make music your fans want to hear, not what the radio is willing to accept. The radio does not give a fuck about any artist, they only care about their ratings and their sponcers. I have always been a Mr. Kee fan. To me when you went from I.T.P.G and fuckin with darkroom to 14k dreams, that was you growing as an artist. after that it seemed you were being held back in one way or another. Always do you, but understand that its your fans who buy your music not radio program directors or D.J.'s.

I don't really think of people as sell-outs . I knew Cisco's brother ( Latino Velvet ) & he was alway bitter about Baby Bash & him coming up ....

I think every man needs to provide & represent themselves how they see fit . At 18-25 I was on some other thinking & would never condone some of the music I listen to now ... But now Im older grown up & can appreciate other types of music .

Is E-40 a sell out = NO

Yukmouth - NO

Thizz Latin = No

All these artist & labels have gone in more mainstream & tried expanding . I wish them all luck . Its a good thing for the Bay Area .

Kee... Make something for everybody. period. If you make a few radio playable hits for the women, then you'll gain probably the most important fan base, in my opinion. If the females dig your music, then it's gonna get bought. If they aren't buyin' it, their husband, boyfriend, sugardaddy etc... will buy it for them. Of course the fanbase that you established from day 1 is extremely important, but you definitely can't go wrong making hits for the ladies. People have mentioned Beesh a few times on this topic.... he made hits for the women and bubbled. He's still makin them, as well as stuff for the homies. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned growth. You as an emcee/ artist are at a different point in your life than you were 10-15 years ago. Make power moves homie, I'd love to see you bubble all over, it's long overdue.

aslong as you keep your fan base happy, and stay connected to them, keep a steady stream of material and always stay humble, theres no chance in hell ull be looked at as a sell out

just keep doin what makes you feel form fit in ur skin, cuz at the end of the day, bein real is what people really like to see

anyway, welcome to the sicc Kee, hope your here for a good stay fam
