Lets get this straight cuz i think this is Part of The Bay Areas problem, just cuz you put some sounds together with your triton & your MPC dont make you a producer you are a beat maker! A Producer Produces! He sits with the artist and formulate a song! He takes the vocals and synchronize them with the music. He mixes his own music and takes the time to make sure his shit sounds TIGHT! ( in most cases) Production wise who ive either worked with or seen get down in The Bay there is EA-SKI, Rick Rock, Dwayne Wiggins, Shock G, Tone Capone, 1 Drop, Mr. Peete( a under rated producer)Mike Moseley, Sam Bostic, Studio Tone. Khayree, Femi, Old Bigga Figga(until i get some new music i dont believe he still produces)these are PRODUCERS and their acomplishements in the music game speak for themselves. They only deal with people who can spend the money to have their music mixed at the million dollar studios or they mix it their selves,(Rick, Ski) And for people to sit up here and say Rick Rock is just alright?? Hating cuz look you can have your personal opinion about his beats like on a particular song but to say alright is equilevent to average and thats hating, if He is average what is someof the other producers who ya named in the post thats hasnt accomplished shit in the game! Thats like saying Kobe & Mcgrady is just alright in basketball cuz there is a nigga in high school that is raw but he dont got grades so he might not make it? Cmon the prrof is in the pudding, just cuz he is on and you are not (YET) dont prove who's better it proves that he is dong more at the time and you are not on his level so Humble up until ya make it and let your work speak for itself!!!!!!!
people who music i like and look foward to working with is LEFT. Sean T, Droop E, Rhythm X, Jaerilla, Nick Peece, but all you so called producers take a look at your work habits and better yet go to LA, & NY, and atlanta and see how some of the big wigs get down and then compare stop comparing yourselves to other bay producers and rappers too cuz you are comparing yourselves to someone else thats in LAST PLACE!

thats real though a trinity/triton dont make you a producers, and just cause you make beats dont mean they good enough to sell and charge ridiculous amounts for.....and just cause you can make words rhyme it dont make you a rapper....

Let me be the devil's advocate.. I agree with most of what was said. But because a cat git a beat off you and you don't mix it and make sure the artist get's the most out of the beat does not mean he is not a producer. unless the artist or label is paying you for more than just the track, you shouldn't be expected to mix and mold the artist around the beat. Producers who do this are paid top dollar and not penny pinched for their production. Most producers would prefer having more input in the finished product because it will reflect on us if it comes out weak. Thats why I don't do alot of production for artist in the bay or else where cause we don't get paid what we really deserve, instead I produce my own shit cause cats only pay you $300-$500 and believe and expect $5000.00 worth of work from you. That's why the bay is losing. From beginning to end I fully produce my shit, vocals included and have a hand in the mixing along with my engineer.... Just another twist and way to look at it.

My two cents on the reason the Bay is losing, it's because we catch on too late and then do it to death. Same thing that happened with compilations is happening with mixtapes right now. Everybody and their momma has a mixtape out. New York has been doing it for eons, let's move on from fucking up peoples' hard earned songs and get back original before we drop the ball again in 2004.

I have heard some wack beats from Dre, Quik and others just like I've heard some supertight shit from Kanye West, Rick Rock and J Platinum. Rap is the same thing that it has always been a very fickle business and you are only as tight as your last release in California. In New York you still get props for shit you had out 15 years ago. (Dana Dane, etc.) Everyone has an opinion this has been mine.

aint no one wanna pay for a sandwich.....beat makers need to stop charging, cause they need they name out anyways, i'm kinda getting tired of new booty "beat makers" trying to charge hundreds of dollars off top...and i'm like..."who are you?, what have you done?"

I can't wait to start stackign chips to fuck with real "producers"

personally i think Northern Cali in general got the "I'm better than you complex" There's a bunch of people out here that think they're god's gift to music and shoot the next man down or dry hate the next man because they feel they're better. Need to be more networkin' and co-op shit goin on regardless of status....

my take... maybe i jumped off topic ...

wut is it chuck.... good luck in 04

@ CHUCK

I stated the same shit a while back that you did and folks totally disagreed with me. Somebody who constructs music is a producer of a beat, or a BEAT MAKER!! But, just because a cat makes a beat doesn't make him a producer. When cats say DRE isn't a producer because he doesn't make his beats, they are only lying to themselves. Dre has been labeled the best producer in rap music because of the way he puts shit together, right?? Cats tell me I'm not a producer because I RARELY make beats, when I put my hands on beats I'm like Dre, I add my little part then I'm done...but when the song is ready, I'm at the boards puttin shit together...

So EVERYBODY, Chuck is right like I was right MONTHS ago...anybody can slap a beat together. A PRODUCER will sit with an artist, construct the song, tell the artist how the track should be laid out, give his 2 cents on certain matters and parts of the song, advice on delivery, tone, EVERYTHING...then when the song is completely laid out and recorded, that producer will MIX the song!! Thats a producer's job...if you're just slangin' beats, you're a beat maker for whoever the beat goes to...and should only get partial production credits since production is so much more than what you lay out with a keyboard and drum machine/sampler. I fuck with FULL FLEDGED PRODUCERS, which is why you'll never catch Street Soundz purchasing beats only!!

DRE DOESN'T MAKE BEATS? HUH?

I'M NOT A PRODUCER BUT I AM A BEAT MAKER, AND THATS WHAT I DO. IF A RAPPER PICKS UP MY BEAT I WORK WITH HIM TO GET IT TO FIT WHAT HE'S TRYING TO DO. I DON'T SIT IN A STUDIO. I DO THROW NOISES TO GETHER... CAREFULLY. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH BEING A BEAT MAKER???

AND YOU'LL HEAR A LOT MORE ABOUT ME AS TIME GOES BY. AND WHEN I'M MAKING TRACKS FOR YOU, MAKE SURE NOT TO PUT "PRODUCED BY"... I GUESS.

SICKASSMICK....

No, Dre doesn't make those beats...I mean, he can, but he hasn't done it in years. He takes what other cats make, and then puts his own touch to it and that's it...which is why his whole team left.

Absolutely nothing wrong with being a beat maker, the whole point I guess is to show all these so called "Producers" that even though they make beats, that doesn't make them a producer really. A lot of cats say they are the best producers, when they don't even produce, ya know? I respect all sides, producers and beat makers alike, because without either of them, a rapper/singer has no product to push, unless it's sloppy as shit. I like how you said you put shit together carefully and work with a rapper to match what he wants to do, that's good...a lot of cats don't do that, so you get my respect fa sho. If somebody picks up a track from you, it should say PRODUCED BY: (with your name, and whoever mixes the song)...beat makers still need credit, and so do the cats that mix...so both names should go in the credits under production...cause like I said, a beat maker produces the beat, so that's partial production credit right there.
