Play clock was at zero for crucial Ravens first down

By Chris Chase

Another game, another officiating error in the NFL. On a key third-and-2 with 2:52 remaining in today's divisional playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans, the play clock clearly expired well before Joe Flacco received the snap, but no delay of game call came from the officials.
The Ravens converted the first down on a long pass to Todd Heap, and ended up kicking the winning field goal later in the drive.

It's not uncommon for officials to miss the play clock hitting zero, but when they do the ball is snapped nearly immediately afterward. On this play, the ball was snapped 1.35 seconds after the play clock expired (yes, I timed it). That might sound trivial, but it's really, really not. It's a long time. Watch the replay, it's preposterous how long the back judge had to make the call.

This doesn't excuse the Titans for giving up the first down on the third-and-2. Nor is it intended to suggest that the Ravens couldn't have converted on third-and-7 after the penalty. The point is, they should have had to.

I DON'T KNOW BRO. HAYNESWORTH CREATES SO MUCH DISRUPTION ON THAT LINE, HE JUST MIGHT BE WORTH IT. HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE SINGLE BIGGEST REASON THE TITANS MADE IT AS FAR AS THEY DID.HE FREED THE REST OF THE D UP TO MAKE PLAY AFTER PLAY.

AND I DISAGREE THAT DT IS NOT A "SKILL" POSITION. I KNOW IT'S NOT TECHNICALLY CONSIDERED ONE BUT AN ELITE DT CAN GET YOU INTO THE PLAYOFFS YEAR AFTER YEAR..

i think the bolded is wrong...had you said that about the previous season id agree....haynesworth played very well this season but we did just fine in his absent as well...

i think the biggest reason for success was our O-LINE honestly...they were the most consistint bunch of the whole team....the D-LINE had big games and even won us some games....but the o-line played at a consistint level the whole season...

I agree with S1, Haynesworth was the biggest reason they made it that far. He was beasting on that D-line, when he got hurt the Titans defense wasn't the same.

our biggest day on the D-line came with Hanyesworth out....

our d-line played very well throughout the year....

little will you know that haynesworth only plays 60-75 percent of the plays....haynesworth could very well be the best 4-3 DT in the leauge...but he isnt the reason we got that far...

we were missing him AND key other members of the d-line in the biggest games of the regular season (ravens, steelers , colts, jets)

Haynesworth is the best 4-3 DT in the league, but he is not the main reason the Titans did so well this year. Their whole defense played well even when Haynesworth wasn't in the game so to say he is the main reason they went as far as they did is just wrong in my opinion. There wasn't a huge drop in play when Albert Haynesworth was not on the field.

While I think he'd be a major addition to most teams, he simply is not worth $15-18 million. If you don't have good players around him, the team will not do well and it's gonna be hard to put many good players around him when he's taking up that much cap room.

no player in any sport is worth that type of money, but since theyre getting contracts like that then he is a prime candidate for it. his presence alone gives opposing teams fits. they gotta game plan around (or away) from him. o lines gotta double and triple team him so that leaves opportunities for other players, thus making them and the team better.

HAHA…if the Titans D is better without him…he wouldn’t be playing.

He’s a beast…and he doesn’t play all the time cause he’s a big ass dude that probably gets tired. When he’s in he produces.

A lot of people said the same thing about Rogers…now he’s in the pro bowl.

I do agree that’s a whole lot of money though.

thats not what im saying...like i said hes the best 4-3 dt in the leauge...but as fatal and i said there was almost no fall off from 2nd-3rd on the depth chart (Vickerson, Jason Jones, ) all had HUGE games in Haynesworths absent...

he is a beast..and i know big boys get tired...but theres plenty of big men throughout the leauge that have the HEART to play threw it on big plays...

i feel he slacks off a lil more then most DTs i see....

and dont forget that he only started putting up the REAL numbers in contract years...

nashville is a college football town though...fair wheather fans worst then SD IMO...

SEC dominates all sports talk in the city...even outta season...titans were division champions/in a division title game and all they talk about is Tebow and if he will return or not...kiffin, his dad....all that...

oh well...i dont live there lol

mcginnis our LB/assisant head coach is the most likely front runner for the d cord job after schwartz left for detriot...

id like to see our d get a lil more aggresive with more blitz packages with safteys mostly..

im guessing mcginnis would be a good fit...not saying i like the hiring....fisher is loyal to his in house staff and titans never make the move to shake the ground of the organzation....

id like to see em make a play for romeo crennel or some shit...make a splash and take a chance for once is my thinking
