DENVER DUMPS DRE’
Posted by Mike Florio on February 17, 2009, 8:13 p.m.

After cutting six players on Monday, the Denver Broncos dumped a seventh guy on Tuesday.

Gone is cornerback Dre’ Bly, according to the team’s official web site.

Bly arrived via trade two years ago. He was due to earn a base salary of $3.25 million in 2009.

The move makes him an unrestricted free agent.

He spent his first four years with the Rams, then four with the Lions.
I'm torn on this, He wasn't what he was supposed to be but at the same time ANYONE would have got beat the past 2 years, first being opposite of Bailey you get more balls your way and second our d-line gets absolutely zero pressure forcing him to have to hold longer, impossible for almost anyone.

So this move I am a little mixed feelings on.

The Oakland Raiders will soon be parting ways with one of the only wideouts on the roster with any significant experience.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Raiders are expected to release receiver Ronald Curry.

Per NFLPA records, Curry was signed through 2011, at a base salary of $3.5 million this year. Per Schefter, the net cap savings will be $2.3 million.

Schefter also points out that the Raiders will save $7.2 million in cap space if they dump tackle Kwame Harris.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to apply the franchise tag to receiver Antonio Bryant by Thursday’s 4:00 p.m. EST deadline.

Our guess is that he’ll promptly sign the one-year offer of $9.488 million, which will make the money fully guaranteed.

Chargers franchise Sproles

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/18/fantasy-spin-chargers-franchise-rb-sproles/

The Chargers took a major step to resolve their running back issues. They designated Darren Sproles as their franchise player, which will limit his free-agent options but guarantee him $6.621 million for the 2009 season.
Most believed the Chargers couldn’t afford to pay both Sproles and starting RB LaDainian Tomlinson. But the Chargers made sure they could.

Yet another franchise tag was handed down Wednesday night.

After contract talks failed to produce a deal, the St. Louis Rams designated safety Oshiomogho Atogwe as their franchise player. The safety franchise number for Atogwe is $6.342 million.

It makes sense for St. Louis and its new head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, because Atogwe would have been the top free-agent safety, and the draft is considered thin at that position.

The Rams had hoped to strike a long-term deal with Atogwe, but when they couldn’t, the franchise tag became a viable option. The two sides can continue working to a long-term deal, but Atogwe is going nowhere now.

FUCK!

Harrison’s Indy days are done

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Indianapolis Colts, Marvin Harrison

Everyone keeps focusing on WR Terrell Owens‘ future with the Cowboys. But the more pressing issues surround Colts WR Marvin Harrison.

It’s no longer a question of if Harrison, 36, will be let go. It has become a question of when. It will happen in the coming days, certainly before the new league year starts a week from Friday, but few are sure exactly when.

But make no mistake: It is happening. The Colts no longer can afford to carry Harrison, who is scheduled to have a $13.4 million number for an Indianapolis team that is starving for more salary-cap room to deal with free-agents-to-be such as CB Kelvin Hayden.

If the Colts were to release Harrison, his $13.4 million number instantly would come off the books, saving the team $7 million against the cap. Harrison still would count $6.4 million in dead money, but more importantly, there would be the $7 million savings.

Plus, the Colts have been bracing for this day, drafting Anthony Gonzalez in the first round and grooming young WRs Roy Hall and Pierre Garcon.

The Colts’ first-round draft pick in 1996, Harrison will finish his Indianapolis career with 1,102 catches for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns.

It was a great career. The last chapter soon will be written.

The Houston Texans have joined the game of tag, becoming the eleventh team to use the franchise designation on one of their impending free agents.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Texans have applied the tag to cornerback Dunta Robinson.

The move makes Robinson eligible for a one-year contract, with a salary of $9.957 million. If he accepts the tender, the salary is fully guaranteed.
