but you cant ignore the fact that alot of folks during the time saw the non violent movement only going so far . Look at SNCC and later on the black panthers. They wern't out tearing shit up BUT they def. were not with the non violent movement
I agree, but we have to remember that the Panthers only took it so far. They advocated for building up the community during crisis times. Now tearing shit up. We need to be careful with drawing parallels between civil rights protests, and this tonite. Black men in the 60's wasn't stomping on cars yelling out they turfs like we saw people do tonite.

Good thing I took bart to the protest or it would have been all bad for my truck
LMAO damn
Tragic death to my potna Oscar. Even more tragic how his funeral is being overshadowed by dumbass kids who aint got nothing better to do then act a damn fool. And using Oscar's name as an excuse to do it.

See this is this problem. People ain't showing they care by breaking and burning cars. They just using this shit as an excuse to act like typical niggas. My mama is good friends with Oscar's mom I know his mom is uneasy about what is going on. They burning down cars, getting arrested by the 100s, and fucking up businesses in the name of Oscar Grant? Fuck naw they doing that shit because that is what niggas in Oakland do. Act a damn fool.
Yeah even at tha funeral some dude that didnt even know him was actin a fool right outside tha church doors...I mean damn take that shit down tha block and let his family and friends morn in peace!
Do any of yall remember what happened to parts of East Oakland after the Raiders got their ass whooped in the Super Bowl in 2002? Niggas went crazy. They damn near burned down the MacDonalds on 59th and E14. Fucked up hella cars, niggas was getting popped, robbed....Do you think this shit happened because of the game? Hell naw. Niggas need to go home and stop feeding the fire. There is a right and wrong way of doing things. This ain't the right way.
Hyphy lives! LOL J/P

are you a business owner? Alot of businesses aint doin that well... U want someone to come fuck your house and car up and just act like you got it like that?? hella ignorant
what the HELL are you talking about? Didnt I just say i hope no one was hurt and that businesses can recoup? No one wants to go through that shit- but it is what it is. It happened , now we have to DEAL with it. What we need to be arguing about is how to prevent this heinous crime from happening again so there will be no cause to riot for.

Well maybe this is the time for some of us to really get involved with the youth- if they have so much energy we can maybe help them direct it to do good. Not drawing any comparisons to the civil rights movements but dont forget all the riots that happened during that time. It always results in our own communities getting burned up- the authorities that be make sure it doesn't get to where THEY live.

I can't believe this shit. "Knew of him." Are you serious? Didn't I just say we went to the same Church and played on the same hoop team. Didn't you just read that? Didn't I just say my dad coached him personally. He was older than me but I still considered him a friend, and I looked up to him. I ain't put extra on nothing. Ain't no inside angle nigga I'm saying I don't like how people are using his name as an excuse to do stupid shit. Shut the fuck up clown you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
you're right i'm a clown, i'll stop now before you go to the next level of internet tough guyism and threaten to come beat me up

so it seems like we need to figure out why do riots happen amongst minorities in urban populations..you have to be careful with these type of statements because it can be easily used to justify the mistreatment of minority youth
you can't say its coincidence. shit like this don't happen in places like danville, dublin, cupertino, burlingame, ect ect. use that to justify they are just blind to the facts. or they simply just don't know about or care about whats really going on in our neighborhoods. some people still think this kinda shit doesn't happen anymore. point being its an endless cycle, always will be regardless of what we say or do it will continue to go down like this. minority youth will continue to be mistreated and in response will continue to rebel against authorities.

It does not have to be an endless cycle; get to the root of the problem which is the injustices that the said community face and those in the suburban areas do not. Urban communities do not have the same access to education, jobs, and healthcare. The fact of the matter is the gap between the rich and the poor, the urban and suburban communities is getting larger any min. Until something is done you are right it will continue but I do not beleive it has to be an endless cycle.

Tragic end to a young mans life. Prayers out to his family.

The riots prove this generation aint organized...ya know we dont know the real meaning of fighting for something, we are living of the fruits from early civil right fights and activism.

We as this younger generation need to organize and stand for whats right these days...but the system got people on distraction mode..weak thoughless music, sports through out the year bills to pay, car payment, mortgage payment and no jobs...modern day slavery

Where are all our great leaders nowa days? we dont have great leaders like we did back in the day, sure Obama is now elected but other than him who we got? Obama only got elected cuz Bush was the worst president in recorded history ever.

We are becoming more and more irrelevant...get up get up get up get up get up get up get up, dont stop the movement!

damn i need to sleep..lol

your right it doesn't have to be and i hope others in our communities would think the same, but how long has this been going on for now? this isn't new. how long have we (minorities), or any people fighting for their cause, been fighting for now? i mean look at whats going on in the middle east, how long have they been fighting for? since christ. same shit just on a much smaller scale. how many generations have tried to speak out about unjust treatment in our neighborhoods. much respect to groups like the BP's ect that have fought for this but look what still happens every day out here. this incident just so happened to be caught on film with hundreds of witness. we can't stop fighting but do you really see an end in sight?

im only 27, i can't say im a grown ass man i haven't lived long enough yet, i've seen plenty of shit in my life and have done my history on shit that really goes on. i just wish the youth would do their history, read a book, and learn that fuckin up an innocent persons car, or vandalizing someones business doesn't help the cause, and could turn someones judgment on whether shit like shooting a minority kid in the back is justified.

They were all shot DEAD like fuckin DOGS. THAT'S where they are.

I aint condoning this type of behavior, but i definitely aint against it in this case.

THESE are the "BASTERDS OF THE PARTY"; The Black Panther Party.

With all of our real leaders & organizations from the generations before us intentionally destroyed or put in the ground, we've had NOTHING to seriously look up to, for anything. They were all replaced by athletes and jiggy rap artist.

So this is what you get from my generation. misguided built-in frustration and anger. I'm just glad tonight it went into some yuppies windshield, and not into a full clip into another nigga's face.

PS. don't get obama's lil skin color fucked up, that nigga workin for the same people that was before him. its all the same shit. wake up.
