If Brown was drafted he would play OLB, and Harylson would prolly move to DE, both can play DE i believe.
I stated that i would like to see us trade down, Maybe offer the Lions our Number 10 pick and a 3rd or 4th for their Number 20 pick that they got from dallas, and their 2nd rounder..... and aim for Harvin, and that FS Brown, and a NT in the 2nd round

if that was to happen, they would pick 20th,33rd,42nd

Former Raiders executive Michael Lombardi reports for the National Football Post that the Boston College coach who was fired last week for pursuing the head-coaching job with the New York Jets will interview for the 49ers' offensive coordinator position.

Jeff Jagodzinski spent the past two seasons as Boston College head coach, where he compiled a 20-8 record. Athletic director Gene DeFilippo fired Jagodzinski last week. Reportedly, DeFilippo learned that Jagodzinski contacted the Jets about the opening. Then, according to reports, Jagodzinski lied to DeFilippo about it.

Jagodzinski, 45, worked under Mike McCarthy as Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator in 2006. He worked with the Packers from 1999 to 2003 as tight ends coach. He coached the Atlanta Falcons' offensive line in 2004 and '05 before rejoining the Packers on McCarthy's staff.

The Packers ranked ninth in the NFL in yards per game with Jagodzinski as coordinator. The Packers were 22nd in scoring and 23rd with 103.9 yards rushing per game.

UPDATE: Former 49ers coach Mike Nolan was offered the Packers D-coordinator job Saturday night but turned it down, according to a source close to Nolan. Instead, he is joining Josh McDaniels' staff with the Broncos.

Niners Trade

Number 10 pick + 74th (3rd Rounder) = 1520 points
or
Number 10 pick + 106th (4th Rounder) +129th (Comp 4th) = 1430

For the Lions

Number 20 pick + 33rd (2nd Rounder) = 1430 points

49ers Add New Coaching Positions
http://www.49ers.com/pressbox/news_detail.php?PRKey=5091&section=PR%20News
January 12, 2009

The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday two new positions to the team’s coaching staff. Vantz Singletary will serve as the team’s inside linebackers coach, while Al Harris has been named as the club’s pass rush specialist coach. Jason Tarver will continue to coach the outside linebackers.

“We are pleased to add Vantz Singletary and Al Harris to our coaching staff,” said 49ers head coach Mike Singletary. “Both possess the qualities and character that I am looking for to lead our group forward.”

Vantz Singletary has been a successful collegiate coach for the past 17 seasons with his most recent stop in 2008 as the defensive tackles coach at Buffalo, where he helped lead the school to its first ever bowl appearance and a 2008 Mid-American Conference title.

His previous assignments were with Tennessee at Chattanooga (2006-07), Hawaii (1999-2005), Southern (1997-98) and Trinity College (1992-96). He has coached numerous future NFL players while they were collegians, including current 49ers defensive lineman Isaac Sopoaga at Hawaii.

“Vantz has had a tremendous career during his many seasons as a collegiate coach,” said Mike Singletary. “I am confident that the way in which he has worked with young football players during that extensive experience will translate into success as he embarks on his NFL coaching career.”

Vance Singletary, a nephew of Mike Singletary, has also served as a summer intern at NFL camps for numerous teams.

He starred during his playing days as a defensive tackle and linebacker at Kansas State in 1987 and 1988 after spending two All-American junior college seasons at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

Harris returns to the NFL after a stellar playing career that spanned 11 campaigns with Chicago (1979-84, 86-88) and Philadelphia (1989-90).

“Al Harris’ greatest attribute is as a teacher,” said Mike Singletary. “We’re excited about the addition of Al because our players will benefit from his teaching ability, in terms of the strategy and methodology of what goes into the pass rush.”

Sum Old School News

The Bears make up for not drafting Joe Montana by stealing Mike Singletary from the 49ers. Chicago trades its fifth-round pick to San Francisco to move up two spots and select Singletary in the second round. 49er coach Bill Walsh later regretted the move. The Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers storm the league, finishing 12-4 and 13-3 to win their respective conferences. Tampa Bay wins its second NFC Central crown in three years, but the Bucs are slaughtered 38-0 at Dallas in the divisional round. Each conference championship game is memorable. In the AFC, Cincinnati defeats San Diego in frigid temperatures, while the 49ers beat Dallas on "The Catch" in San Francisco. Montana leads the 49ers to the first of their Super Bowl victories over the Bengals, 26-21 in Detroit.

I was going to wait on blog-recommending Tom Cable for a top 49ers’ offensive staff job until tomorrow, when Cable’s Raiders contract officially expires.

Oh well, Jerry Mac snuck it in there today. Credit to him.
If I’m 49ers Coach Mike Singletary, there’d be some plusses to interviewing Cable for either the offensive coordinator job or as an asst HC/offense (offensive line), presuming you hire a QBs guy as the offensive coordinator:

* Power football? That’s Cable. He is a smash-mouth guy to suit Singletary’s smash-mouth fervor.

* Play-calling? Singletary might want somebody else (Rick Dennison?) doing that, might not.

Cable took over the play-calling from Greg Knapp last season and the Raiders’ offense was OK and was quite good in the final two games.

* Cable has had a tremendous variety of experiences, from college to pro to working for Al Davis (a whole other entity) which might be a valuable resource for Singletary, in his first NFL top gig.

* Cable’s a good guy.

If I’m Cable, I might be listening to a 49ers interview request, because:

* No coach can wait around for too long, especially a coach who has as many options as Cable. If Al Davis isn’t ready to pull the trigger by this week (as I suggested Davis should do, if he’s going to hire Cable anyway), then Cable has to start looking around.

* Cable could have some big success with the 49ers.

The 49ers’ offensive line is better suited for a power blocking scheme than the Raiders. That’s one thing I defend Scot McCloughan about and totally agree with him: This is a big, talented line, only getting more talented with Chilo Rachal’s ascension at RG.

They need another tackle, with Jonas Jenning sputtering out, but I like the possibilities of this OL. As I’ve said before to rebutt complaints about the OL: I just can’t see it getting much more talented unless the 49ers invest another top pick in a tackle, and they’ve got too many other needs to do something like that.

* Davis might need to know that there is competition for Cable’s services. Davis is always particularly in tune to competition from the 49ers.

And Davis hasn’t usually gotten upset when his people have used some leverage on him–Tim Brown did it, Jon Gruden did it, Tommy Kelly… it’s just the way the NFL operates and Al respects leverage.

Scherer Interviews for QB Coach
http://49ers.com/blog49/?p=405

The 49ers don’t have any offensive coordinator interviews scheduled for Tuesday, but San Francisco did interview Rip Scherer as a potential replacement for recently dismissed quarterbacks coach Ted Tollner.

Scherer spent the last four seasons in Cleveland coaching quarterbacks. His last two years in Cleveland teamed him with coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who interviewed for the offensive coordinator position on Saturday.

Although 2008 was an injury plagued season for the Browns quarterbacks, Scherer worked with Derek Anderson, who was named to his first Pro Bowl following a breakout season in 2007 as Anderson threw for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns and propelled the Browns offense which ranked eighth in the league in scoring and yards per game.

Scherer joined the Browns in 2005 with over 30 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.

Scherer spent two seasons (2003-04) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Southern Mississippi after serving as co-offensive coordinator at University of Kansas in 2001. Scherer was the head coach at James Madison University from 1991-94, and during that time the team set or tied over 140 school records. While Scherer served as the head coach at University of Memphis (1995-00), the club registered the first and only victory over the University of Tennessee in school history. Scherer was also the offensive coordinator at University of Arizona (1989-90), University of Alabama (1987) and Georgia Tech (1981, 1986). He also served as assistant athletic director at Georgia Tech in 1985 and director of football operations at Arizona in 1988.

Scherer started his coaching career as a graduate assistant under legendary coach Joe Paterno at Penn State University in 1974 and went on to coach quarterbacks at North Carolina State University (1976), running backs at the University of Hawaii (1977-78) and quarterbacks at University of Virginia (1979).

Coaching Background:
1974-75 Penn State, graduate assistant
1976 North Carolina State, part-time assistant quarterbacks coach
1977-78 University of Hawaii, running backs coach
1979 University of Virginia, quarterbacks coach
1980-81 Georgia Tech, quarterbacks coach
1982-84 Georgia Tech, running backs coach
1985 Georgia Tech, assistant athletic director
1986 Georgia Tech, quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator
1987 University of Alabama, offensive coordinator
1988-90 University of Arizona, offensive coordinator/director of football operations (1988) 1991-94 James Madison University, head coach
1995-2000 University of Memphis, head coach
2001 University of Kansas, co-offensive coordinator
2003-04 Southern Mississippi, offensive coordinator
2005-06 Cleveland Browns, quarterbacks coach

McPherson Interviews for QB Coach
http://49ers.com/blog49/?p=406

The 49ers interviewed their second candidate for the quarterback position in Pat McPherson. Due to a conflict with schedules, the formal interview with McPherson and Scot McCloughan and Mike Singletary was conducted over the phone. His father, Bill McPherson, coached in the NFL for 21 years and worked as a personnel consultant for the San Francisco 49ers before retiring in February 2005.

McPherson spent the last eleven seasons with the Denver Broncos where he wore a variety of hats, including two seasons coaching tight ends (2007-2008), four years working with the quarterbacks (2003-06), three years as an offensive assistant (1999-2002) and one year as the defensive assistant (1998).

McPherson’s promotion to quarterbacks coach in 2003 coincided with Denver’s signing of Jake Plummer, who became one of the NFL’s elite players at his position during four seasons with the Broncos. Plummer’s 39-15 regular-season record (.722) from 2003-06 with McPherson as his position coach marked the fourth-best winning percentage among all NFL signal callers. The quarterback also compiled a +24 touchdown-to-interception ratio (71-47) under McPherson, a significant improvement from the -24 ratio (90-114) he had in his first six seasons with the Cardinals.

In addition, Plummer concluded his career with Denver as its all-time leader in passer rating (84.3) and surrendered the sixth-fewest sacks (69) in the NFL from 2003-06 among quarterbacks with at least 1,000 passes.

McPherson in 2006 helped ease rookie quarterback Jay Cutler’s transition into the NFL as the first round draft choice started Denver’s final five games and made league history in the process. Cutler became the first rookie in NFL history and one of only two players in league annals to throw at least two touchdown passes in each of his first four games. He also had the second-highest touchdown percentage (6.6) and third-highest touchdown-to-interception ratio (1.8) by an NFL rookie since the 1970 merger.

McPherson was hired by the Broncos on April 7, 1998, following a four-year coaching stint at his high school alma mater, Bellarmine College Prep, in San Jose, Calif. In addition to coordinating the defense and coaching the inside linebackers, McPherson’s duties included teaching English, algebra and physical fitness at the school.

During his tenure at Bellarmine, the football team compiled a record of 35-11, won three consecutive league titles and made one section championship appearance as well as two semifinal appearances. He also gained valuable coaching experience volunteering with the San Francisco 49ers in 1996, serving in a defensive quality control capacity.

McPherson holds a bachelor’s degree in English and an MBA from Santa Clara, where he captained the football team and was voted Most Inspirational Player as an inside linebacker during his senior season of 1992. He began his collegiate career in 1987 at UCLA, where he received the Charles Pike Award, which recognizes the school’s outstanding freshman football player. McPherson signed with the 49ers as a rookie free agent in 1993 and participated in three preseason games, including one against the Broncos at Mile High Stadium.

A native of San Jose, Calif., McPherson was an all-state and All-America inside linebacker at Bellarmine College Prep, where he earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as a senior. He was voted captain of the North team in California’s North-South Shrine Game played at the Rose Bowl. In April 2004, McPherson was inducted into Bellarmine’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Niners bring in Linehan for a return visit
Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Rob Chudzinski, San Francisco 49ers, Scott Linehan
http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/01/15/niners-bring-in-linehan-for-return-visit/

As some teams narrow their head-coaching search, the San Francisco 49ers are doing the same with their hunt for an offensive coordinator.

Former St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan is scheduled to interview with the 49ers for a second time. Linehan’s flight is scheduled to land in the Bay Area this afternoon, and once it does, he’s off to the 49ers’ training facility in Santa Clara.

Linehan is believed to be the first candidate to have two interviews for the job. Former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski also is a candidate.

The 49ers wanted to interview around six candidates and have them bounce their ideas off head coach Mike Singletary. After listening to those candidates, the 49ers are narrowing their search.

There's nothing wrong with Linehan. In fact, he's the one I want as OC. Don't let his failure in STL fool you homie, he knows how to run an offense and is the perfect fit for the style Mike Singletary wants to run.

Which is why the following script makes me pretty happy with how things are looking right now:

Scott Linehan is the leading candidate for the 49ers' offensive coordinator position, and there is a strong chance he will be offered the job this evening, a league source said.

"That's the way it's heading," the source said.

Linehan, the former St. Louis Rams head coach, arrived in the Bay Area this afternoon to meet with coach Mike Singletary and general manager Scot McCloughan for the second time in a week. Linehan has a scheduled return flight tomorrow, and the source said he believes the 49ers' goal is to have a contract agreement with Linehan before he leaves town.
