what pisses me off is, people are killin people on the radio and in video songs, but when people in the bay do it, it don't get played on the radio!

I live in NY right now, i play shit from the bay, and they say it's too gangsta for them, i think it's because they believe the bay cats will actually do it! They don't believe that the mainstream artists will actually kill anyone.

I'm tired of hearing why the bay ain't blowin up. Only one person hit it on the head to me, the quality ain't good, but the buisness is even worse!!!!! put out a video and advertise in more places than murder dog, the siccness and xplosive!

Well put,

everybody talks about the same stuff but theres gotta be something that separates one from the rest of the pack, thats what A&Rs look for when scouting for new talent.

alot of it is how someone looks, carisma, and just putting a new twist on things.

Few artists do that even in the mainstream and the ones who don't cut it become one hit wonders on the radio. EX you got you Eminems, 50s, Nellys etc then you got other cats who will eventually fade away.

The bay is the same way, check how long those "where are they now threads" are. There are few cats who stand out of the pack in a market that is flooded with alot of bullshit.

New York cats have alot of pull in the rap game and the big players conscistantly drop hits, of course the radio are gonna play em out. but for every Jay Z, Puffy, 50 Cent etc there are a thousand weak acts flooding their market as well. Same Goes for Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans etc.

Another thing is all the hot citys have a powerhouse label or 2 backing them up getting their acts on the radio NY-Jay Z, Puffy ATL Dupree, Lil John New Orleans-Master P, Baby
It may be just me but I think the Bay needs that to get the pull they want.

Ya'll cats say ya'll do this and that for the Bay, what eva. Shit ain't changed as far as the state of Bay Area Hip-Hop scene in years. Certain individuals have made a name for themselfs like Mr. Kee, Dutch, Balance, Locksmith, FAB, Laroo, A-Wax, Mac & AK and more from HARD WORK. Strive for what you want and go get, but be real with yourself. If you don't have what it takes, leave it alone and try to do something else that involves music. Rappin isn't the only way to get paid and have the fame.

Word Of Mouf is a mutha, so hype up the good shit and avoid saying anything about the bullshit you heard.

What is needed is a Forum dedicated to ONLY criticing music. That will be a good source for feed back. Then if your single gets a majority of good feed back, then we all should flood the stations and request it. The powers is in the numbers.
THAT'S ONE PART OF THE SOLUTION THAT CAN MAKE AN IMPACT.

Ya'll remember old school Hugh E MC? He is on KPOO every Saturday at 7pm. Tune into www.kpoo.com and check him and the rest of our dj's out. Props to Mark 7 and his folks for playing Bay shit.

What's up Moe & Yung Gizzle (Yung G)? Holla at ya boy!!!

www.kpoo.com Believe that!!! YEAH!!!

well for your information to advertise in the source magazine a 1 page full color add is over 40,000 dollars for vibe it is 80,000 dollars for a 1 page add thats why the bays outlets are Explosive,Showcase, Murder Dog,and other independent magazines.Another thing is and I did the research and know an artist that tried this is Viacom the company that owns MTV, VH1 ect... will play an unknown artists video in regular rotation for the cheap price of 1.5 million dollars what the bay needs is a major lable with that kinda money to get us that type of advertisement holla!!!!!

but fuck it, messy marv took the chance and did if for turf politics. the video thing is a lil out of the question for damn near all the bay artists for that reason. I understand that. The promo thing isn't out of the question. You don't need a full page promo in a mag to get noticed homie. Good info tho

My few pennies...

Chuck is right, alot of shit is garbage. Fine. Thats not our problem and then again it is. We expect to get love from radio but 90% of our labels a re "pseudo" labels with a PO Box and a voice mail. 90% don't know how to put together a onesheet, or secure distribution or communicate properly with radio. 90% of us want to keep everything "gangsta" and we all get blackballed for it.

Another thing is, real muthafuckas network with the real. Like Chuck said...me, Jay tee, Bash, 40 , Chuck, Quinn, Rick Rock, Sean T and countless others are always fuckin' wit each other on some music shit. Dutch, Playa Rae, Mark 7, etc. If everybody lent a hand to everyone else there would be no industry left for us to eat off of.

Bottom line is this is a cutthroat biz and it is SURVIAL OF THE FITTEST.

And about the radio, Im tired of that subject...radio WOULD flop if they played all Bay shit because the fact of the matter is is that more women listen to radio then dudes. And if you did a study, more dudes download shit than women (myself included).

I work for Clear Channel and the truth is most of us aren't even blips on the major label radar. Im not asking anyone to change...keep doing what you are doing and that will take care of the competition. Period. And all the real muthafuckas will be left at the end.

PS
I might be chiming in for Dutch cuz that my homie but there aren't too many cats especially on this board that can see him on some freestyle shit. I witnessed him murder a gang of cats at the first Siccness BBQ. And as for him not doing shit, he has toured around the country with us, 40, SPM, and also has sold a decent amount of records independently and bben on alot of radio stations (I have BDS to prove it). He has accomplished alot and I dont think he is being cocky, I think he is telling cats to be realists.

If it aint worked yet, it might not. Period. Think about it.

Peace and good luck to EVERYONE. We need it.

See the top thread in BART. Put your music there, let folks here it and judge it.

Fuck Are we even on the same topic anymore?

Its "Fuck The Radio" on one side and "Fuck the Net Rappers" on the other so what is the right route?
Why not use both. If you expect to get breaded everytime you hit the booth then good luck. Cause you got to have your shit together to have folks call you up saying come get on my record and get my $$. This is the Game that one hand washes the other. So if you dont want to Help folks out and lace them up with your Super tight vocals then dont expect shit from them. If you dont expect the same from them then your doin something wrong. We Collab on shit around here. You need Rhymes I got you, i need a Heater beat. But the folks we are workin with Treat each other like Family so thats what they get.

And if the net wasnt what it is the "Big Timers" wouldnt be on here either. Folks wouldnt bother stateing what they did or who they work for or What CD they got coming out, and the such.

Fuck ya'll are making me go to the Fridge already for a Corona and it aint even noon.

Everyone is saying the Bay needs to change.
what do they need to change into? Cause everytime someone is tryin to change I see ten thousand folks talkin down on them for leavin the bay mentality.
Bay is Originality. But its also stayin true. Bay is Bay. New Bay Old Bay. Its all Bay.
Don't let the jealous ones bring you down with them.
"They" always do that shit regardless of who the artist is.
'Them" fuckers will always be around so fuck what they "say" when everone else is "buying" your music....

PEOPLE WONDER WHY THEY AIN'T SELLIN BIG, WHEN THEY ONLY PRESS 1000 COPIES, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? STOCK BROKERS WOULDN'T MAKE SHIT IF THEY ONLY HAD A 100 SHARES OF A $1.50 STOCK, YOU HAVE TO MAKE POWER MOVES TO MAKE THE BIG MONEY. THE GAME IS A GAMBLE, BUT THE ONES THAT'S REALLY BALLIN OUT THERE, TOOK THE BIG CHANCES AND HAD CONFIDENCE THAT WHATEVER THEIR PRODUCT MAY BE, WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO SELL. I THINK PEOPLE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH CONFIDENCE OUTSIDE THEIR BLOCK TO PRESS UP OVER 10000 COPIES. GET A LOAN IF YOU AIN'T GOT THE GRIP. YOU CAN'T GET A DEAL IF YOU DON'T AT LEAST MAKE CONSIDERABLE PROFIT MARGIN AND AT LEAST GET OVER 5K UNITS SOUNDSCANNED, BE REAL WITH YOURSELVES.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, DISTRIBUTE OUTSIDE OF THE CALI, OREGON, NEVADA, ARIZONA AND WASHINGTON REGIONS!!!!!! TAKE THAT TRIP TO RADIO SHOWS AT LEAST AS FAR AS TEXAS IF YOU WANT THE BIG BREAD. IF YOU CAN SELL UNITS IN TEXAS, YOU GONNA SELL IN OKLAHOMA, LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA, MAYBE TENNESSEE TOO.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN THE BAY TO ME IS, POOOOOOOOR MARKETING!!!!!! IF THAT MEANS MAKING A RADIO CUT, GOING OUT OF STATE TO PROMOTE, AND TAKING AN INITIAL LOSS IN FUNDS, DO THAT SHIT IF YOU HAVE THE CONFIDENCE IN YOUR PRODUCT!
Business man talking right there.
I said this shit in another thread a while back but damn nobody even peeped it. A person like Master P laid the blue prints down on how to make it in this shit.
Yet nobody and I mean nobody's taking advantage of this shit.

What's the deal?
You gotta work your ass off and hustle your shit.
If some of ya'll have worked hard enough already and have nothing to show for, then you should consider giving it up cuz chances are your music is garbage....

My question to artists here is why do you guys fear recording contracts????
I know "In a Minute" fucked a lot of people over back in the days but who can you blame for that shit?
You talk to cats left and right here in the Yay and everyone fears a contract like cryptonite.
Contracts can be negotiated for the better, get your hustle on.
I just don't understand how some of these cats rather sell a few hundred copies out the trunk only to make a few thousand bucks. But then pass up the opportunity to make hundreds of thousands more by selling thousands of copies.
Some times you gotta take a blow in order to make dough....
It's a gamble, but this is the one gamble that you can actually get something out of in the long run....

I agree with that and I'll also be honest about your shit Moe....
I heard your shit a while back and your lyrics are at a higher level above the rest of the shit Yay rappers are yappin about.

You come off as a New York'ish type of flow.
Sound like Big Sike/Nikatina/my homie Joe Moe but with better lyrics.

Keep it up bro.
And Dutch you too, I don't understand how lesser white cats get more luv than you *cough Eminem cough*
