"The beat selection was minimalistic and verse structe rudiementary on some songs. Kutt had an oppurtunity to make a great mix of tonality and dropped the ball..."
I'm not trying to be an ass but that's how some of you sound. I mean, I'm not going to bitch that people take music seriously and want to discuss it in depth...but a few people seem to be putting this release under the microscope quite a bit while forgetting two main points; first, Kutt Calhoun is on a small, independent label. This effects his beat selection, features and a ton more with their production budget. I think he did amazing for what he had to work with. Secondly, this is - excluding his mixtape- only his sophmore release. I think it's a big improvement overall.
What Strange music needs isn't neccesarily a lyrical genius or the depth of a Nas release. What Strange music needs is an artist to put out a solid start to finish release with good beats and tight flow- something people can bang out of their stereos and swallow and- hopefully- something that could spark on the streets. More than any other Strange release this year I'd have to say Feature Presentation is that.
That's why, in my opinion, FP is the best release of the year for this label and why it got me so excited. It just sounds like the right album for what Kutt needs to do for his crew and his bank account. Plus, like I said, it's only his second release.
