i didnt read a single post cept the first one so sorry if this has allready been said............I cant speak for every single artist out there but the majority of these artists do these mixtapes to get noticed, for example say your some kid in highschool and you got your rap game on tight you still just a highschool kid proally with no money how do you get heard ??/ It aint like you can go out and pay a producer to lace you up beats cause your broke as fuck so the best thing to do is rap over someone elses beats and show people how you can take a song and completly change it to something else....thats how you get noticed ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT of record labels find artists through mixtapes they hear someone and are like...how you think 50cent was found eminem heard him on a mix tape now 50 is the biggest thing going right now. Like i said i cant speak on every artist but most artists that do mixtapes do it to get noticed by labels and the radio its not so much something for the mainstream public to bump its more just to get exposure with the labels.

k just read some of yall posts...seems like alot of people got it twisted most artists who do mixtapes dont do it for money they do it for expsoure..........you can be the tightest artist out there but if you aint got a sick beat to go with your material you aint going no where, mixtapes are a way to show industry heads what you can do with a tight beat. No way in hell is this a step back for the bay this is a step forward if anything cause mixtapes are a way for the unknown to get known.

As a fan and customer I feel ripped off... its a quick hustle to get my money...
I feel that...

I like the idea of Cane & Arsen putting it up for download... These types of albums should be cheap... If you're doing it for promo it shouldn't be on shelves for the price of a regular CD...

the only problem is...none of these are true mixtapes

they're underground freestyle tapes like Lil Flip does and not that many people are doin it that i know of...
so it will over saturate real quick

a true mixtape has A BUNCH OF ARTISTS...with exclusive songs, freestyles, regular tracks where they put an underground cats vocals on the REAL SONG...so it sounds like the artists collabed(that is a mixtape remix)

that way it can't get old cus it's a bunch of cats doin it

and it's not oversaturated yet, so much power to the cats doin these JACKIN FOR BEATS CDs...it's a nice change for the moment

WASNT MAC DRE THE FIRST TO HAVE A MIX TAPE OUT THE BAY?(EVEN THO HE DIDNT PUT IT OUT)...DONT HATE THE PLAYER HATE THE GAME..THAS A MIX TAPE RITE?
AND MY OPINION ON MIX TAPES IS..THERE COOL...BUT IF EVERYONE AND THEY MOMMA START RELEASING MIX TAPES..IT WILL GET PLAYED OUT TOO QUIK....

BUT I THINK EVERY ARTIST IS FREE TO MAKE THERE OWN DECISION TO RELEASE A MIX TAPE OR NOT....JUST LIKE EVERY CONSUMER IS FREE TO DECIDE WETHER OR NOT THEY WANNA PURCHASE THAT MIX TAPE...IF U FEEL IT...GRAB IT...IF U DONT...DONT

94401: you think just because a label puts out a "mix tape" with jacked beatz theyre bein lazy? hmmm..

We got plenty of albums we can drop right now.. but we're usin this mix tape thing to try to stir up some thingz out this way and get folks familiar with the artists that we're puttin out. It's not bein lazy at all... itz all in the marketing. There's lotz of work and time invested into this shit... the beats were free ... but thatz all.. shit there's still manufacturing costs, mastering costs, film costs, electricty to run the labb , etc etc..

Ourz will be $6 shipped...
and plus it'll be available for DL on the net. and yes Moe.. it is a change of pace.. especially in an untapped area such as the Central Valley. We need this type of shit out here. Shit even Stockton needs this type of movement.

I think a free single or 2, or an EP with all new original songs would help an artist get more recognition...

Easier said than done. Shit a full length album from an unknown that features credible names on it is more likely to struggle than succeed. why? Because people just aren't giving new and unknown artists a chance nowadays. The rich get richer and unknowns are left fightin for the crumbs which are worth much of nothing. These mix cds "can" be an avenue to those that follow-up with real product and albums. It's only as valuable as you make it. I say.. Keep on doin it..

If you possess real talent who knows might hear it and you may get a sniff, this shit will flood real quick just like everything else but the weak cats will not prevail in the end. I been wantin to do this shit for 2 years but the resources weren't there etc. but anywayz it is strictly promotion, if you drop shit that's quality to keep your name ringin in the streets when your real albums drop hopefully u can get some luv back feel me? and i try not to use all the hot beats for instance there was alotta beats we liked but cellski did em already an they were hot, so we left em alone. So we chose some that havent been used an others that werent as well known. WAIT TILL YALL HEAR VOL2
