why is everyones perception that the bay has already blown, or that it is back? Its a beautiful thing that know we get alot more radio support and club play. but the bay has at least 2 - 4 years to go b4 it is even a contender again. majors wont come until we start selling. this whole thizzin and goin dumb craze aint sellin either, the younger generation has really latched onto it because its something that they can latch on 2. but please remember that jus cause cats know about us in different regions doesnt mean we r doin it big. we live in a time where there is myspace and boards like this and limewire n shit. them knowin about us in flint michigan or wherever is all good, but it still has to translate into sales. this fad is not selling. until our formula starts to sell, the majors will never give a damn.

Everyone stop they complaining and step it up. I see a lot kat's mad because the kids don't like the shit they put out. The kids are the ones on Goin Dumb, getting hyphy, riding yellow buses etc. So what does that mean... some of these complaining as niggas need to be better role models. On top of that, turn off the radio, sign a petition, and pickett the radio stations. I listen to the radio when I forget my CD's at home, so if the radio isn't playing what I like... I turn the station to something different. There is too many artist to complain about what the next nigga is spittin. The kids love it, they buy it, they support it, and share it. Do the same, and get the kids involved with it. Even E-40 is riding Yellow Buses... to the radio sation. You don't have to give in, just play by the rules. I'm in Sac, and not a day goes by I don't hear Keak, & Dre on the radio. When Federation makes a new joint, they spin it all day long. Politics is politics so be a politician and campaign your movement. Don't get mad... get even... make the radio look for you. Get at these D.J's and voice your opinions... not hate on everything else because it's not what you like. Hammer doesn't speak for all the Bay, but when he was on that's all he did. So support all music from your region and market it to those that appreciate it. I don't like most of the music coming out... but I support it becuase I love the "hustle". I can't hate a nigga for making a million where I didn't.

-Too Bad I got too much pride to make a couple million singing bout bitches in strip clubs, or repeating my name enough to make sure you never forget it.-

I been said this go stupid shit was real stupid like a year ago, I didnt get to read everyones posts but dont put new bay and hyphy within the same catergory. They are completely two seperate movements one is tryin to motivate teach and uplift the other is trying to downgrade and distroy a culture......just my thoughts on the matter.

You the one who was talkin about "downloading mob music" off the Internet... Nobody here was downloading albums in fucking '94-'95. Shit.
What kind of point was that even making anyway? What does that have to do with how weak some people feel the new movement is compared to the old? "I'll just guess at random that you didn't buy the albums and wasn't supportin... well then, if you don't support, you can't complain! Shut this thread down!" What the fuck flawed ass logic is this? If somebody says Bill Clinton was a better president than Bush Jr., do you walk up to him and say "I bet you didn't even vote back then, so you have no right to complain about politics now"?
Fuck I bought half the tapes that used to come out back then. But 99% of the new shit, I can't feel it. And when I talk about it, I get the same empty answers-hyphy shit is more appealing to the masses, rappers gotta go on the radio and get they money, that's how the bay a blow up... except it ain't working. Sales are low as hell and nobody outside the bay really feel that new movement. That's how I and a lot of people feel, we might as well say it.
Obviously, (and I'm not surprised) my point when waaaay over your head.

First off, I never said anything about "downloading Mob Music off the internet" - don't know where you got that from. My point is, if you don't like it, how hard is it to listen to something else? You think just because you're from the bay area , or live in the bay area, or feel like you have some sort of connection to bay area artists that you HAVE to listen to bay area music all of the time? Some of you are so brainwashed by this Anti-Mainstream attitude that you're missing out on A LOT of good music.

I'll say it again, I love it when they think they know you on the internet... I was the biggest fan of the 90's bay stuff and I purchased all of it. You name it (especially if it's from Frisco) - I got it. That don't have nothin to do with my point here. Don't see why you brought that up.

This is how it works - Bay artists made their kind of music in the 90s. That style ran it's course and isn't done anymore. When the ability to download FULL ALBUMS off of the internet became common to most households, that had and continues to have an immediate impact on sales - can't deny this. If B-Legit can't sell 10,000 in his first week, there's something wrong. It has nothing to do with the quality of the album because it's B-Legit. It's been a while since he dropped anything, he's a legend and cats should cop that shit on the strength .. .NOPE .. download. I saw mufuckas on this very board putting up threads talking about "Hit me on AIM if you want that B-Legit". I'll never for the life of me understand why that's tolerated around here ...

It's like this - The Bay as a market (artists and consumers) has not supported itself the way other markets have. THIS IS WHAT LEADS TO LOW SALES. So the artists see that the Bay consumers aren't supporting - the artists gotta eat in order to bring YOU more music. Seeing that he (the artist) can't sell 20,000 in his own backyard anymore, he has to take another approach. Radio is now supporting some local artists, why not do something for the radio? Whether it's hyphy or shmyphy music, the artists have been left pretty much without a choice BY THE CONSUMERS because they (the consumers) don't support. That is the bottom line.

And you have the NERVE to complain? Get the fuck outta here...

This mobb vs hyphy shit is dumb. It seems like niggaz are revolting against everything that is new. I remember when the bay sound was new to east coast niggaz and they would speak on mobb music like niggaz in this thread is speaking on the new sound. And it aint like its all that different. Is "fuck yo couch" a hyphy song? It really sounds like mr flamboyant to me. What about "its getting hot"? Its it the sounds? the bass? the lyrics? peoples reaction to the music? What the fuck is the problem? You should see the youngstas go dumb off "to hard for the radio" shit hasn't changed that much.

Also it seems that everytime we get into a disscussion about todays music, we have to talk about why TBIB is not all the way in effect. I feel like the downloading cat is out of the bag here in the bay. I don't think its cool to download whole albums and shit, but people are not gonna stop that shit and start picking up cds again. If the consumer has transformed into simply a "fan" there has to be a new way for the "fan" to support. I think that the artist is starting to embrace different ways of being supported by the fan. Rappers have sites/my space pages/ email all the shit. But why are none of our artist #1 on itunes or some shit like that? There is more than one way to have a following. Hits on a website per day. that is popularity. Put out more dvds, embrace new media. We got this brand new music and new tech, so we need a new hustle. In case people haven't noticed CD's are slowly on there way out. I'm not trying to disrespect the thinking "support the artist by purchasing the cd" I'm just saying that we gotta come with more ways than that.

As fans and consumers who spend our hard earned money on music (and not none of that downloading bullshit either) I believe we are entitled to form our own opinions on the music we buy. If we don't like it whether it be hyphe or mobb music we have the right to say so that's the way it works so I wouldn't call it complaining. Nobody can get mad at a man's opinion they can only deal with it or try to change it.

PS: Don't get me wrong I love all of Mac Dre's music because he was an innovator but there can only be one Mac Dre.

i'd agree with this and say why it translates into sales is b/c older heads can't relate to going dumb.

i hear you man, but ya know one persons garbage is another mans treasure

i don't make gangsta songs, but i get gangsters that come up to me all the time tellin me how they feel my music

i write love songs and gangsters tell me damn, that's how relationships really go

for real, teenage girls and club bitches are the last people i want to feel my songs...if that means i don't sell then cool, but before THE LOVE BELOW/SPEAKERBOX outkast never had any songs that was like that and they still got felt by everyone cus they made real music...cus on the real, my music aint' for club hoppers, and that's fine is someone elses is, but i'm just not one of em

i've made one on purpose club track, and it's not even a rap song

ionno i'm high and ramblin

but everyone just gotta do them

cus there's a place for everybody

i don't wanna watch nothin but comedies, but i also don't wanna watch nothin but drama's

so it's good that we have people making different kinds of music

i dont' care if someones album is all on one topic, if it's real it's real, if it moves me it moves me

i used to think, alright i need my club song, my street song, my love song etc etc

and that's why i think it was right to me, even though so many people in the industry have told me i shoulda dropped an album a long time ago

cus i don't wanna fuck it up, i'm tryin to leave a legacy

but i'm now at that point i can , and i got my head on straight and i'm ready to take over the world lol
if you didn't notice there is a major division between hip-hop and gangsta rap at the moment

you might not, but you are older -- what i'm talking about is with the younger generation under 22, they do see a major division between hip-hop and gangsta rap and they don't view them as the same
