According to mediabase...On KMEL the past 7 days...other than Keyshia Cole & J. Valentine.....there are no bay area artists in the top 50 most played songs. A year ago there would always be 3-5 bay area rap songs up on that list. I don't think the list includes songs played on DJ mix shows...so its probably not as bad as it looks though.
A year ago VON & SCOOTER FOX WERN'T SPINNING FROM 3-10pm!!!!! They are not playing Bay music at a time when the Bay needs it the most. I bet if they would have been on Clyde's single he might have gotten some attention at Capital. Or Ya Boy's single produced by Cool and Dre KMEL showed it NO love. The Pack's "In My Car" is a stapple on MTV Jam's, but can't get any love at home. FAB had a huge buzz, but his beef with KMEL cost him. The Frontline has two video's on MTV Jam's and they put out a dope album...you don't hear them anymore. The Bay has the right artist right now to make a serious dent, but no home field advantage. There are allot more artist that I didn't mention, but I think you get the drift. No support= No Bay Area National attention.

My experiences and what I learned is that its hard to get added or played.. but start with radio DJs that actually fuck wit the streets.. Knuckles, MIND, Rick Lee.. and maybe Drew Hef.. if muhfuckaz hear yo shit and requests start comin in, then you'd get noticed by Von and/or Stacy.. which is the goal! I hate the radio politics too.. but aint NO way around the bullshit TRUST! If you tryna get played on they shit then you gotta play THEY game ya dig?

I agree with you that there's bigger problems out there, but this is BART. People always gonna bitch about lack of love from DJ so and so, and from Radio Station such and such. Shoot, I got car problems, but I leave that shit on my car forum, LOL.

^ That's true, I always remember KMEL being better than WILD949. I was hella young back then though, I barely remember the days when ClearChannel wasn't around (I'm sure it was around, but it wasn't controlling almost all the radio stations in the country yet.)

What Indo said is the truth. That's how it's been for a long minute now.

clear channel is to terestrial radio, what xm or sirius is to satalite radio. basicly clear channels goal is to make to where you can drive coast to coast, border to border top to bottom, and be able to hear the same play list. i know that clearchannel owns about 85-90% of hip-hop and r&b stations around the country.

you do the math.

what i am saying is if your not spending 25k or more then you have no business making a album AND THINKING YOU SHOULD SELL ALOT OF COPIES, BE ALL OVER THE RADIO,AND GET FAMOUS. If it was that easy and that small of a investment then you would have the everyday investor dump 5-24k on a rapper they can go find on myspace and turn there 5-24k into a hundred thousand dollars or more. It just dont happen my friend. you need talent and money to be successfull and sometimes you just need alot of money in the rap business to be successfull. No distrabutor or store is interested in a project that will just be taking up space on there racks because you dont have the money to get out there and promote your record to have people come in and pick it up. fans dont want to buy the poor sound quality album because there was no budget to get a quality mix and masterd album. now if you dont care about making money, wanting people to know who you are and you just wanna tell people your a rapper cuz you have a myspace music page or maybe u just love to make music for your self to hear then thats cool enjoy recording in your low budget studio that sounds like shit and rapping over beats that are made over a computer that honestly anybody else could have done if they took the time.
ok i see where u comin from but its rappers thats hot in the streets whos shit get more love than these other cats that spend a bunch of money to make them look big wat ever happened to lettin the music speak 4 itself money dont make u a good rapper
