It really comes down to this. Artists in the bay for the most part are lazy and horrible business people. I know personally or am associated with damn near every artist that matters in the bay and for the most part niggas think they've made it and havent done half the work. They are delusional. mediocre albums, sub par songs and inconsistent work ethic is why shit aint on the radio. The problem is on clear channel, kmel a little bit but its mostly on the artist. Pick up a fucking music industry book, talk to SUCCESFUL artists who have been there before you, get some knowledge. And most of all humble yourselves. Its really easy to blame von, kmel and clear channel for your failure as an artist but most of these cats will get nowhere till they shine the light on themselves.

KMEL used 2 b the people's station but now, phhh! more like 94.9 part II. Ihaven't played the radio in tha bay since deez nutz went off the air. Who dosen't agree that tha regular everyday cats who aren't involved in radio politics get a piss-poor variety of recycled top 50 shtuff. Then when someone local brings heat, they play the shit out.

Sounds like the formula for a traditional radio station to me. Last time I checked, Clear Channel owned them.

let this be a super hyphy concert thread and boxx kev and the other 4-5 undercover kmel employee names would be in here poppin game to sale them tickets! but because it is a thread that could really use some kmel imput they will not post in here for nothing. the rap game is fucked in the bay. get used to it, it wont change. we all better pray 40 puts us on his back 1 more time and then maybe we wont fuck it up again.

You know the one where he's like "got rich over night all started from a dream"
Im not sure what the actual title is though.
that used to get radio play, i know hella people that dont listen to jacka or really heard of him , but when the song "girls say" come on i always hear them say... " oooooooh jaaaaaack " when that part comes on

box kev like a bay rap groupie only people he puts on are them done deal cats that nigga is always jockin ya boy
you cant really say that bout kev. i mean he can only play his position. his only rebuttle to this will be that he plays bay shit on his show. problem is his show is on at 2 am on friday night. noone listens. so him actually speaking in here isnt the answer to the problem. what needs to happen is that von needs to come on here and hold an open discussion abotu the state of bay rap and what he would like to see from the artists to build the next generation of bay rap.

will it happen? fuck no. cause the station is a p1 station. which means they are so high up the ladder in the scheme of this that in reality they dont have to care really what the people think.

the worst part is that there is not shit the people can do about it, besides pray that von and the new lady up there decide to put the bay on the map.

I think the problem is competition. KMEL is really the only 24/7 urban station. What has to happen is that quality music has to get popular through the internet and the streets and force the hand of KMEL. Like it was said earlier, KMEL plays hits. MARKET YOURSELVES !!!!

According to mediabase...On KMEL the past 7 days...other than Keyshia Cole & J. Valentine.....there are no bay area artists in the top 50 most played songs. A year ago there would always be 3-5 bay area rap songs up on that list. I don't think the list includes songs played on DJ mix shows...so its probably not as bad as it looks though.
