If you have a fan base anticipating a release, really there is no cutoff. But if you are a 30+ something year-old just getting started like say Rob Rize, the game passed you by and you need to hang up them boots....

Thats really all it boils down to....If there is money it, and you want and have been doing it anyway, why not continue to do it? Just as long as you arent making a fool of yourself by trying to be someone you're not...that goes for young rappers as well..at the end of your rap career, you also want to be respected...

these type of guys like short and 40 who are established and can still draw at shows and sell (albeit not like the used to) can still make money. Why wouldnt they keep making music. They can make the music for next to nothing. They aint gotta pay producers cuz cats give them shit, they can distribute their own music and get all $$$$ they sell. And they can still pack shows and get paid to go rock a show for an hour and get 3-5k maybe more. I wouldn't retire

the reason we didn see is alot of "old school" rappers make any noise in the late 90's early 2000's was because the popular subject matter was gangster shit... and they didnt do that. but now it seems anyone from any corner of the world can rap the aint just one popular sub genre

however. i think theres a cut off age for "nobodys". not sayin a nobody cant be a somebody in the industry. just be realistic. unfortunatly, underground arent realistic about the music industry.

How are underground artist not being realistic? I'd like to know what you meant by that. What is your personal views on it?

My personal perspective is, if you love doing what you're doing then continue doing it. It doesn't matter if your making money off it. The bottom line is the happiness within yourself.

I see many say that after 30 it probably won't happen & that's true to an extent, but the music industry has so much more to offer. I think the biggest problem is the mind frame of a lot of underground rappers. The main problem is, everybody wants to be in the limelight / the main rapper etc. I think if older / "nobody" rappers use their knowledge to help a younger "nobody" rapper he can still fulfill his dream of making it through somebody else. It would satisfy the soul knowing he had enough knowledge to make it.

The other side is, who knows? A major might discover you in your mid 40's and your still a "nobody" rapper doing it for the love of it. If you have true skills, but not the looks a major might hire you as ghost writer. In my opinion that's a lot better than living with "What if's" the rest of your life.

In the very end you either got rich or died trying, but the biggest thing is, you never gave up.

I think if there's a cut off age for rappers that's like saying Raps not a real genre. Nobody says 40 year old country and rock singers should retire. Plus if E40 retires ill never listen to a new rap album again. Also some of the old dudes are still better than young rappers so fuck that.
bad comparision. country is real songs from the heart writting by songwriters. While rap is trends and fads. imo if a rapper starts looking old and grey they should stay behind the scenes and push young talent.
