Just wondering because I want to buy a new desktop PC.

I just keep hearing bad $hit about 64bit systems. Such as drivers not working. And Quad core CPUs seem to be a bit too ahead of it's time with software not really utilizing it's full potential.

So with that being said, is it FUTURE safe to go with an Intel DualCore2 Duo system and 32bit OS?

I personally don't want to spend that much. Maybe $800 at max for both computer and monitor. I'm not doing nothing too crazy, just making beats as a hobby and internet use.

I currently have an HP Pavilion a1340n:
Pentium 4 640 3.2GHz (800MHZ FSB)
1GB Ram

Would I notice an improvement with that DualCore2 Duo processor, lets say running at 2.66GHz?

I know they ain't, I just don't want driver issues. I mean 64bit is really just about memory management. I currently only run 1gig of memory and it's fine for the most part to me. I just need a faster CPU. I also wouldn't even mind to partition my drive to run XP.

BTW, that comp ain't bad. But it's lacking a DVI input and decent graphics card. I want to output on an HD monitor.

You're not going to notice nor utilize 64bit most likely. I been on Windows 7 x64 since April with 0 driver issues. If you go Win 7 64bit in the future you shouldn't have problems.

Some software does not run on 64-bit systems, especially the high end music and video programs. Hell, you have to get a "hacked" version of iTunes for 64-bit systems.

I am running 64-bit XP Pro with a Quad with no issues.

I'd wait till all your favorite software and hardware has stable drivers before getting a 64 bit system especially if you are using audio and video programs

I haven't had any driver issues on Vista Premium 64. iTunes works as shitty as it normally does (fuck iTunes by the way). After hearing of all the complaints people had with Vista, I'm pretty impressed with how well it's running. All my games, apps etc work fine on Vista. Even old ass apps.

There's not really a whole lot of reason to get a 64 bit OS unless you're getting more than 4 gigs of ram.

You probably don't need a quad-core system, but if the price increase isn't too much you might as well go for it.

I went to BestBuy today to see if they sell any older 32bit systems and they don't. All 64bit. Some dude said they only sell 32bit, online. :ermm:

Any other suggestions for building up a custom PC? I might check out FRYS tomorrrow.

I want fast DualCore2 Duo
Atleast 3gigs of Ram
Decent video card with DVI, not dedicated Intel shit.
Atleast 500 gigs of HD space.
