His development was great this year, I don't see any other good QB becoming available outside of the draft and that's a gamble anyways. I say keep him and let him continue to flourish under Harbaugh.
They'd be stupid to cut him. I called him a bust years back, but he played fine the whole year and damn near led the 49ers to the SuperBowl. He didn't cost the team any games this year (like he used to do).

IMO he cost them the NFC championship game with his 3rd down completions (or lack thereof) with help from kyle williams. But I do think 1 game out of 18 is still pretty good, he can definitely be coached up. Don't think he'll ever be as good as Steve "I just got another concussion, that's the 6th one today" Young no matter how much he's coached up. Montana comparison is completely out of the question. He's approaching Jeff "I'm not gay but my boyfriend is" Garcia and should pass him with the way this year looked.
He had a poor game sunday and couldnt convert on 3rd downs. I still say keep him with no more than a 3 yr deal. If he sucks next season, bring on Kaepernick for 2013 season. He will be ready
Not trying to make excuses for Alex but there was very few times I saw our wrs get any separation, we need a real #1 Wr we have been lacking for years. As far as getting rid of him, if harbaugh sees a better option pull the trigger and let Alex walk. With that said what other options are out there?
unless peyton manning is coming to SF resign alex asap! besides if we invest to much into a QB, we are going to have to let a lot of key pieces walk on our defense. I don't know about you guys but it was nice having that defense to always fall back on when shit hit the fan.
THE WR POS. CAME BACK 2 HAUNT US ALEX DIDN'T CONVERT AS WELL AS R WR DIDN'T GET OPEN ALEX CAN HIT THE OPEN GUY. SHOULDA KEPT BRAYLON I STILL HAV FAITH IN CRABTREE BUT DAAM IS HE OVERATED OR WHAT. WILLIAMS ( BESIDES THE MISCUES) SHOWED CATCH AND BURST ABILITY DURING THE SEASON HE WAS OBVIOUSLY SHOOK N THE BIG 1. AS FAR AS ALEX HEY TOO ALL THE 9ER FANS I BELIEVE WILL B BACK THAT WAS NOT A CINDERELLA SEASON IF ANYTHING WELL B MOR PISSED THAN EVER AND BETTER THAN EVER 1ST GAME LIKE BOOM NEXT SEASON R TEAM IS STILL YOUNG. ALEX SMITH 3 MOR YRSS AND I MEAN 2 WIN THE BIG 1! I BELIEVE KAP. IS THE FUTURE ANYWAYS!
its hard to say. alex has a good year and i think he could be better next year but it matters what you put around him. i trust the coach will do the right thing
Niners won't pursure Flynn and a lot of those wide receivers are not Harbaugh/Baalke guys. I wouldn't be surprised to see Crabtree traded in the offseason. One thing everyone on this team has in common is they are team players with emphasis on the team first and blue collar workers. Crabtree aint one of either.
Alex will be back. Hopefully Tolzien can make a run at the job if hes ready. Don't have any faith in Kap but hopefully i'm wrong. We desperately need receivers tho.
i say cut him. unless you're just happy with playoff appearances. i want to see that 9ners defense win something big. i became a huge fan watching them play in the playoffs.
Even Matt Millen said that wide receivers were not getting open after he watched the tape. Not only that, but there should be blame on Greg Roman the OC. Gore and Hunter should of gotten way more touches towards the end of the game. It's all good. Our squad is young, beastly and our coaching staff is one of the best in the league. I've got 100% faith in whatever Harbaugh/Baalke do.
