The bay will get whats coming to it. An og that went unoticed will pop up once gain, drop an album, lace the boots of the young cats comin up, network, bring peace and get a lot of cats off dope and he WON'T do it with some christian rap music nor will he do it with hyphy type music or anything remotely like that. He will do it with real BAY SHIT.
Now I wanna touch on a couple of points that have been mentioned already. I'll start with the first five listed by the O.P.
In regards to the drugs (1-3) this is on point. The drugs have made it to where niggas have come with some off the wall crazy sounding shit, and I mean crazy in a bad way. Nigga did you just hear that note you played? Of course not, because you are full of dope and crankin out beats that sound like hippy music. Yeah there have been plenty of addicts and users who made good music (Hendrix, Clinton, Staley, etc) but they understood THEORY. A lot of up and coming cats in the bay area don't, so coupled with drugs and a lack of understanding, you get music that sounds like the nigga was on dope when he made the track.
Concerning #4 this happens all the time, and there is a difference between you knowingly recycling some shit or being sold some recycled tracks you were not aware of. In any event, when this happens and the artist did not know, all they need to do is tell what happened and offer some songs for the mishap (but they should also get the recycler and do what they see fit.)
In regards to #5, bullshit is selective. As one former member of the siccness used to say, "Bay Area rap is an acquired taste and the music absolutely inferior." A lot of people are putting out what we can all agree is bullshit and there are many reasons why this happens. Poor equipment, no true knowledge regarding the technical aspect of recording, no business savy (most of these cats can't spell a.s.c.a.p or b.m.i), no knowledge of how the industry works (especially radio which I may touch on in another post), no swagger, don't know how to count bars, no rappin talent and no true sense of purpose.
Why are you putting out an album? Because you see the shiney shit, want the hoes, want to be famous and want the money? You do realize most of this is a dream being expertly marketed and sold, that your chances are slim and none, and that you'll be living out of a suitcase, staying up late for days on end and become a living fuckin jukebox while you rap the same goddamn songs over and over in front of different audiences. Same game, different faces, yet you want it. Everyone, not just bay artists, need to TRULY ask themselves why they are putting out an album, and they need to answer honestly.
Now I'm not sayin NONE of this shit to shit on anyones dreams, to discourage them or to stop them. I'm saying this because right now the bay is like a chicken with it's head cut off and a lot of people pointing the finger actually got us here in the first place (and that isn't directed to ANYONE partaking in this thread.)
Finally, I'm going to end with this. Album sales are down, and there are many reasons for this. However, cd is damn near archaic. Zero's and one's are the preferred method of transferring media and the main storage devices now are iPods, zunes, psp's, phones and other devices. You are not going to stop the downloading or bootlegging of albums, but you can offer incentives to those who do purchase. Concentrate on other means to get the product to the consumer and exploit those means.
