It's being reported that Microsoft is about to reverse all of its controversial Xbox One DRM policies.

According to “multiple sources” cited by the Giant Bomb, Microsoft will undo everything that fans have been getting upset about since the console was announced a few weeks ago, outrage that reached its climax during E3 2013.

Here’s an easy-to-digest breakdown of what that means:

No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
Authentication is no longer necessary
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped

Giant Bomb believes that Microsoft will accompany the announcement with wording to the effect of, “We've been closely listening to consumer feedback.”

Even more interesting, it’s said that this announcement will come today.

Speaking on Twitter the author of the piece said, "I do not publish stuff I am not confident in. Yes, it is sourced anonymously, but I vet vigorously." He added, "Could I be wrong? Yes. But I don't publish stuff like this very often."

Brace yourselves.
Seems unheard of for them to reverse EVERYTHING they have been saying that easliy. I smell B.S. but I hope I am wrong.

I guess, but IMO that is minor as hell compared to the DRM issues, and online check ups.
yea of course but they're not gonna change the hardware so close to the end of the cycle, they cant afford to give sony more of a head start by delaying it. & just cuz they're overriding all the DRM for now, i highly doubt it wont still be in the console itself waiting to get rolled out eventually.

@ 2-0-sixx^^ Hopefully he can let you know if there are any inside leadership changes coming along. The way they handled the PR, and how they didn't care that people from the military wouldn't be able to access it pissed off alot of people including myself. They need to get rid of anyone from that tool Major Nelson and even Spencer. They showed their true colors fuckin queers.

Yes we spoke about that and she felt a couple people will be fired, just like Steven Sinofsky was fired after the release of Windows 8.

Apparently there was a ton of research and all of the advice through the research teams was not to state these policies and there would be a big backlash. But, predictably the higher ups ignored the warnings because of arrogance and the rest is history.

Yes, exactly. Basically MS fucked up by releasing all this information now instead of either gradually integrating them over time, or just not saying shit until after launch.

The other problem was the mass confusion at MS. Only certain people know specific things thus all the various leaks and contradictions between MS employees on twitter and in interviews. In fact, most MS employees involved with the xbone learned a lot of this shit from the xbox reveal and E3. Only the very higher ups knew all of the details and plans.

I think Sony is going to follow suit gradually.

It's possible but it would be smart for them to remain the "anti Microsoft" for as long as possible.

Eventually everything will be digital though, there is no way around that. Maybe not entirely for this generation of consoles but soon after everything will be digital, that's the direction of the industry.
