Barry Zito is staying in the Bay Area with the San Francisco Giants.

Sources told ESPN's Peter Gammons that the former A's pitcher has agreed to a seven-year contract from the Giants. The $126 million deal averages approximately $18 million per season. Zito will be formally introduced by the Giants this afternoon.

The deal, agreed to late Wednesday night, includes an $18 million option for 2014 that could increase the value to $144 million, an unidentified source told The Associated Press.

Gammons reports that Zito picked the Giants over the Rangers, Mets, Yankees and Mariners. In additon, sources told Gammons that the Yankees never made a formal offer.

Zito is 102-63 in 222 career starts, including a 16-10 mark with a 3.83 ERA in 34 starts this year before becoming a free agent.

Coooooooooooooooool !

Zito comes in to my work a lot, cool ass dude, and you would never know he was a multi-millionare, dude is really humble. He stays in SF, so I thought this would be the logical choice. Plus, he's a Californian ( SD to be exact ) so he probably wanted to play in his home state...

This is dope ! Made my day !

I really wasn't expecting him to go to the giants, great news.

zito is living off his cy young year...the last 2 years he hasn't even had better numbers than derek lowe. his K rate isn't very good, his WHIP was a horrible 1.40 last year and he gave up too many HR.

^^2005 was a down year because people got onto his curve. last year his biggest problem was inconsistency, he still was a huge part of the A's success. he will do better because hes added a few pitches to his repertoire and will return back to his old form.

Finally the Giants land a big name free agent!!! I think Zito could have a huge year pitching at a pitchers park and in the NL! He just needs to work on his swing now!
