Well, I've listened to the whole CD (finally got the chance to play the whole thing front-to-back last night), and my opinion is this:
First off, some folks on other threads have said that they think of the CD as being divided into like two parts: the West Coast/Hyphy/whatever else stuff on the first half, and more Southern-sounding tracks on the second half. Whether that's true or not, my opinion right now is that tracks #1 through #11 (although "White Girl" might be Southern-ish, I don't know) are fine, and 40's lyrics are on point. He spits well on a lot of these (especially "They Might Be Taping" and "Muscle Cars" among others), and while the production may get a little samey at times, the shit still bumps well in my ride. Hyphy or not, Tracks 1 through 11 are the best part of the CD.
However, the second half of the CD is where things go downhill a bit. I like three of these: "Just Fuckin'" is okay, and "She Says That She Loves Me" and "Happy 2 To Be Here" ring true (to me) lyrically. However, "U And Dat", "I'm Da Man", "Yee" and "Gimme Head" are just not the best songs that 40's done. I don't have a problem w/ the production or guests on these songs (I can even tolerate Mike Jones), but 40's verses on "I'm Da Man" and "Yee" seem awfully simplistic compared to what he does on the first half of the CD. As for "U And Dat" and "Gimme Head'", 40's lyrics on those are okay, but the choruses are annoying--maybe it's just me, but "Gimme Head" in particular goes on WAY too long! Those two probably should have been shortened a bit length-wise.
I think it's cool that 40 likes to reach out to the South, but I just think 40's had much better Southern-styled tracks and/or collabs w/Southern rappers on previous CDs--"Look At Me" (from CHARLIE HUSTLE), "Clown With It" (L&B), "Rep Yo City" (G&G), and "Anybody Can Get It" (BREAKING NEWS) all showed that 40 could "southern fry" his style (so to speak) with the best of them and still stay dope, whereas it seemed liked he simplified himself a little too much on MY GHETTO REPORT CARD's Southern tracks. Maybe I'll have to just keep playing those tracks and see if they grow on me any, I don't know.
So right now, I'd probably rate this about a 7 or 7.5/10. But again, it may grow on me later; I'll just have to wait and see. It's not his best, but I do hope 40 does well. Just my opinion, though.
PEACE!
