for business sake, he had to conform to the current market trends in order to get to that next level. In doing so, he needs to leave behind what hindered his progress. If things aint workin out, then obviously change needs to be done. You cant please everyone with his decision. Its the same situation wit Baby Bash. He's elevated himself to commercial status by conforming to the industry. You can view it as being a sellout, but at the same time he's being successful doin it. Its a no-win situation. Hardcore fans demand the same hits, while the artist needs to grow.
I ain't callin' 40 a sell-out at all. I'm only sayin that this album was a disapointment. But I STILL went out and bought it simply to support the Bay Area cuz I'm an old-school cat that's got major, major love for the Bay. To me, even his LAST album, while far from classic, was better than this one. But that's just me.

I liked a max of 3 songs. But then again, I don't like much new rap or even music that's come out in the last several years..

I think we're getting old..

so i just bought the album...im through the first 5 songs (except for tell me when to go) and so far a lot of the songs sound the same to me...i mean, i can listen to it, but it gets old...i kinda like it at first and then the beat and the whole sound of the song gets real old quick...im kinda dissapointed, but i gotta give the whole album a listen first.

3 tight tracks for me too

all the rest is either the same simple ass beat that is on Tell Me When To Go (which isn't bad but how many times do you want to hear the same thing) or some watered down sugar-coated (can't say it better) pop-rap

WTF is T-Pain doing on the album???

I'm from the mob music era too, but this album is hard as fuck. The only song I dont like on there is the mike Jones track. Everything else is supreme slappage. Mobb music aint it no more, folks. Bay rap fans aint never happy. First its "WE NEED A NEW SOUND." Now that there's a new sound its "WE WANT OUR NEW MUSIC TO SOUND LIKE ITS ALREADY 15 YEARS OLD."

^^^but seriously, all the beats do kinda have the same formula. i hate to say that, but it seems theyre trying to do that...like just dummy music with a repetitive chorus. i have to say the features come pretty hard htough. B-legits verse is dope.

I'm about to turn 24 next month and I would consider myself apart of that Golden Bay era between 93-97, and I think as a consumer I've kind of just evolved with the new sound the Bay got goin' on. I've always wondered when and if I'll ever grow out of this rap shit, but it's been 10 years now and I still can't 'wait for that new 40 album!' I'm always going to prefer that old shit to this new Bay music they're doin' now, but that old Bay sound is just what it is...history. I've come to grips with that.

Many 40 albums later, and I have still yet to hear one I didn't like...

About to turn 24? No disrespect homie, but you're a youngster, so I wouldn't expect you to understand. I'm 32. I grew up when rap, not just BAY rap, but rap, period, started. I used to breakdance and all that shit. The Golden Age of Bay Area rap started in 1987 when Too $hort blew up with "Born To Mack" (his best album by the way). By '93 it hit it's peak and started to go downhill I'd say in about '95. But that's just my opinion. Regardless, like I said, Mac Dre evolved/changed his style and his shit STILL came tight (and I've BEEN bumpin Mac Dre since '89, I bought the 12" of "Young Black Brotha" with "Too Hard For The Fuckin' Radio" on the B-side). Now I'm not sayin that Mac Dre is better or vice versa, I'm just sayin that if Mac Dre could do it, why couldn't 40? I don't know if I believe this "trying to go commercial" argument, cuz in all honesty, this album ain't too commercial. At least not NATIONALLY commercial. I still think 4o and Keak's styles are too unorthodox for cats in other regions to feel. I HIGHLY doubt that the MTV crowd will feel this album.
