Damn I didnt get to this thread till now, ive had these problems many many times, (played too many hours of intense graphic games in my life, ugh..)
Its one of 2 things, and i can 95% guarantee that one of them is the answer.
1) RAM Overheating/Bad Ram chip. I recently had to take out one of my 512 sticks because it was bad. The way to check which of your two is bad is pretty easy.. just take out one of the 512 sticks, and use the other one.. see if everything works fine. If you pull the good one out, the computer will NOT want to run on the bad one, and youll see severe crashings happen. Throw bad one away
2) Video Card overheating. Even if you think your fan is good.. video card companies (even nVidia who i support fully) usually put the bare minimum of cooling power on their cards. Might want to buy another one IF your ram isnt the problem. Check the ram problem first
