I think it's funny how a bunch of people that have nothing to do with the music industry at all sit back and tell everyone else how they should run their label. I also think it's funny how every ghetto-ass label (trunk sellers) in KC criticize Strange and how they've done shit. Then why aren't YOU selling a million CDs??? If you wre so smart you would have put Kutt(or whoever's name we want to plug in here) out first and he'd be platinum by now....

And just so you know, PDM has sold more than anything on Strange next to Tech....It is a business after all...

I'm not critizing I hella didn't think of a wrapped truck like that and my bad for it... I don't have the bread to do it anyway...

And as I consumer I have the right to critizie.. Kutts not wack at all but his cd isn't tight to me.. I paid for it, no mp3 bootleg shit... And kutts came hard as fuck on a lot of shit so its whatever...

I like how industry cats forget that fans have a voice and just cause the 30 people in the studio that night think somethings hot its hot... No sir, of course them cats think its hot but you got to think in a whole..

Skatterman could sell the most on strange he is so raw...

But what slays me... Is cats like cam ron, and mase are selling like hot cakes and cats like silas aka smigg dirtee, syko, tech n9ne, and whoever else got hella more talent aren't on that level yet

Roberto, tell me that Kutt's album doesn't have the potential to hit it big. So why isn't it? I have seen no promotion whatsoever, and i live in MO, the area where he should be getting really big. In 2 major radio markets of MO (springfield and st. louis) i have not heard a song, and there are plenty of songs that could be singles on there. I like how people talk about people outside the industry criticizing. Well, we ARE the industry. We are the ones that buy the music, we are the ones that do the most promoting, so i think it is right for us to say whether or not we disagree with how an artist that we like is being handeled. we are sitting back wondering why it Kutt is not blowing up. The fans know that he should be. So when we don't see it happening, and the only thing we see happening is a wrapped van, of course we're gonna question some things. And if this is a money issue, maybe Strange shouldn't have moved so quickly to a high rent property. My 2 Cents.

hmmm..
....i look at it like this..
the "ghetto-ass" labels you are talkin about ...prolly sell more or equally as much as Kutt, S&S, BG...
...NOT TECH though (his name is to huge)..

....and they do it all with their hustle...
not wrapped vans....(trunk sellin)..
Most of your great indy artist hustled like that....
(see Fat Tone, Rich Tha Factor)...
you gotta keep a buzz if you wanna sell music...
and thats something Strange needs work on..

Im talkin bout mixcds, features (besides Tech), shit like that.......Thats what really hypes your album up...when you can throw out freestyles or exclusives...

.....so i agree a little with what you are saying...
im just sayin look at all the Money Strange puts forth in a wrapped van or what not...and look at what the artist sold..
....
its not working...

Whether it's working or not, who are we to tell them how to do it? And I'm not talking about Rich & Fat Tone, they've done things. I'm talking about how I repeatedly come to this site and have to read post after post of "Tech should do this" or "Strange should do this" from people who have never put out a record, or have a "label" name even though they've never put out a record or finished anything. There are a thousand "labels" out there (I meet these guys every day) that will never put out an album let alone sell anything. It seems like everyone has a "label" these days. And all of these guys seem to be experts about everything, even though they've never done anything. The fact is that Rich's people, etc. aren't in here posting about what Strange should do every day because they're out there DOING SHIT. That's what I'm talking about....

just a question, how many albums did SS sell, or Beef soundtrack? and this is supposedly with heavy promotion, instores, albums being found at places like best buy?

now look at someone like trajik, the bubble gum rapper that has no street cred. his album sold roughly 1000 copies. not bad for independant with little to no cds in stores, no wrapped cars or oscar meyer weiner vans (i still think that's a good idea), no name recognition, nothing but the hustle of trajik and 70 mile.

i agree with j, its all about the hustle, not wrapped vans and offices in high rent areas.

What are you saying? Kutt and SS should be out in the streets and at malls selling cds out of the trunk of their vehicles, and have a stack of 10 cds in their hand each time you see them at the club selling them for $5? That's a GREAT idea!

You seem to think you know a lot about the music busness (office leasing rates, cost of promoting an album effectively, better ways of transportation) why dont you tell us how to do it?

How do we promote Kutt Calhoun? What do we need to do to make his album a success? Because apparently our hard work hasn't done the trick.

Maybe they should be...

Look at all the texas artists... chamillionaire, slim thug, paul wall, ect. Thats how they made their name and their money. Slim thug said in a recent interview that if you wanna buy his cd he will gladly pull down to the gas station in his bentley and pop the trunk and get you one. Them down south boys grind to get their shit out and sellin... and put out a ton of cd's too.

My 2 cents for now...

if you strange considers what they do "promooting an album effectively" then maybe they need to look up the word effectively in the dictionary.

how do you promote Kutt? TV, Radio, more than 5 minutes on stage at a show, adds in mainstream magazines that actually have heavy rotation (ie, not murder dog). spend some money. takes it to make it.

So putting a Kutt commercial on TV and a full page add in the source would have put him where he needs to be???

Oh and Kutt has been performing his own set at shows for the better part of 4 or 5 months now. And it runs 18-25 minutes depending on if he feels like doing Parlaa Remix and Keep It Keeblur each night.

And what do you know about Strange moving to a high rent property?

running an independant label is harder then a lot of people think. I think strange has done a pretty damn good job, but I also agree with the fact that it's main focus is on tech, but I don't think anyone is denying that. I'm just not sure why they signed another act, that hella threw me off when they did that, but none of us truly know what's going on in the camp so we can't really say much. I wish tech and the whole strange family good luck with anything they do.

hey nick, do you know if they're talkin about making a video for a single of Tech's new cd? Im just curious cuz if there's a song thats good enough to get some buzz why not drop the extra cash to get it on MTV, however much it costs? Didn't Nelly make it big right off the bat cuz everyone seen his very first video on mtv and now that nigga is huge as fuck. Maybe that'd help out in some way if Tech did that (yes we all know about Slacker and Imma Tell). Maybe there will be a single that wont affend MTV enough to where they'll actually play it when people are awake to see it.

oh, 18 minutes. i stand corrected. it's funny, ss and kutt have had albums come out since tech, yet it is still a tech show with supporting cast. i guess when it comes down to it "strange music is a tech n9ne based label." excuse me for having a motherfucking opinion. next time i'll try and not buy whatever CRAP strange puts out (BEEF, SS) out of loyalty to local music. Instead i will only purchase the ones that actually sound appealing to me. or better yet, not purchase them at all and send my $15 directly to the artists, just out of spite.

again, how many albums did SS and Kutt sell? SS i can understand, i don't feel them at all, but others do, and that's cool, if you feel it, you feel it. you'd think strange would be doing more to make sure their investment paid off.

Lmao, Wow shep, get it that azz playa. It's funny how Shep is out here puttin' so much love on the net for these artists and the people that claim to be in so tuff with these camps, be in here with such disrepsectful attitudes towards the very people that promote and buy their product. I remember the Kutt reviews and all the Tech traccs that play in constant rotation on his site. How easy we forget about our alligence to the very people that butter the bread we eat.
