San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary was fired when 49ers returned to practice facility this evening, Jed York just told me. Jim Tomsula takes over as interim.

Jim Tomsula gets promoted from defensive line coach. He's only person on staff with head-coaching experience -- in NFL Europe.

had jed made a move earlier this season.. they might have had a better shot of actually making the playoffs
yep, the York's are stupid when it comes to making changes...

Word was that Eddie D told him to fire Mike Singleminded when they started off bad, but Jed didn't do it because Big York said no and that it was too early.

Hopefully Jed does make the right changes, get a GM that knows his football, a HC that can put together a team and win games.

But I'm glad Dingleberry is out of there for good....

I'm over here wondering who will the coach be, there's 3 coaches in my mind right though. And if we end up with either one of them three, I believe we will shine next season.

i think we fired him @ the right time. I mean now we get to bring in a new head coach and rate how he performs on the basis of an entire season, and not some meaningless games @ the end of the season. After all remember how everyone was riding the singletary wagon after he took over for Nolan.

I was excited when they promoted him to HC, he didn't have the same attitude as he did this year.

What you all think about Mike Holmgren as the 49ers GM and Harbaugh or Gruden as HC?????

damn, with Holgrem as GM...that's a guaranteed winning season.....

I'm honestly kind of sad to see him go only because I wanted him to succeed so bad, but this was the right move. He had to go. He's a great person and was an amazing player, but one of the worst coaches i've ever seen.

lol succeed as a HC?

he's a great Defensive coach though...but he's no NFL HC material, he doesn't have the right mentality to produce a winning team....

His attitude made some players leave, just look at how he argued with Nate Davis, did it with Ass Smith and Troy Smith on National TV.

I'm glad he is out of there, I'm sure a team with defense problems will hire him next season...

and so it begins! Who will be the next coach? Chuckie? Harbaugh? Billick? Some cheap, no experience, defensive minded guy again?
Jed said money wont be the problem to bring a new coach, this time he's doing it the right way.

I'm thinking it will be Gruden or Harbaugh, and maybe Holgrem as GM (hopefully)...

wow thats asking for a lot! whoever takes over has to be willing to put in double the time of most coaches in the NFL. Our franchise is all fucked up right now. Its like obama trying to better the economy after bush destroyed everything.

Shit my dream scenario

Holmgren GM
Gruden HC
Billick OC
Manusky stays as DC

Tomsula stays, Rathman stays

I know billick wouldnt come back to be a OC but if not, keep Mike Johnson with gruden to help him, and shape him, I think Harbaugh could do the same.

Jed York just needs to hire a good GM and then sit back and sign checks

non-football guys shouldn't be making football decisions
basically, hire someone that knows waht teh fuck they are doing and things will start to get better....i just wish they surround withe players with coaches with experience and not just first timers everywhere...
