Asking who the most overrated rapper is, is like asking people who the best rapper is. You'll get a million different answers and none of them are actually right, because its all based on personal opinion.

Anyone who says Rakim is overrated is insane, every rapper references him and alludes to him. He is the father of the modern flow. I think a few guys are better than him, but all the credit given to him is deserved.

I totally agree with the starter of the thread.

Biggie- I never understood why he is considered a legend. I think it had a lot ot do with Pac. While the West had Pac, the East had Biggie, so they gave him the throne.

Mac Dre- Great party rapper, great personality/charisma/character. But definatly over hyped amogst the youngins that jumped on the Hyphy scene and consider him the best rapper alive because they saw Treal TV.

Rick Ross- How many songs are you going to make about slanging dope? You're a drug dealer, I get it already! This dude really irks me, his voice, delievery, lyrics, subject matter are all booty IMO.

TI- King of the South my ass. Once again, subject matter, lyrics are lacking big time.

Young Geezy- (see Rick Ross)

yea but dope slangin rap is whats big now in the south, so why are u gonna be saying hes overrated? hes obviously got somethin goin cuz he came with the best debut in years with THE hottest producers in the game (cool and dre, the runners, jazze pha, etc) and features from some of the biggest names in rap (jigga, jeezy, lil wayne, .....and has soundscanned about 450,000 records in a little over a month.....i think rick ross has major swagger, unique flow and some grimey lines....so i guess i should ask; why would he get all this noise if nobody saw any talent in him?

jay-z signed a big deal with rick ross, so he must have seen something in him....im not much of a jay-z fan, but i will admit he is probably the best businessman in hip-hop EVER..thats really saying somethin..

didnt he rhyme "22" with itself 5 or 6 times in a row, without rhyming a single syllable in the rest of those lines??? that's just bad rapping, no excuse. he has a deal for the same reason young joc has a deal. don't let tha beats fool you.

& joc really proved talent & good music have nothing to do with mainstream record sales, cuz his single didn't even have a good beat behind those simple ass ultra-wack lyrics!!! yet it got a rediculous amount of play on TV & radio.

so i'll tell you what rick ross has really got--- a record label with alotta cash behind him, that knows how to promote right, & "top notch" production. that's it. oh, big name features too, that helps. you think they all jumped on his album for free? HELL NO.

yea he rhymed 22 with itself, so what? that verse was tight as fuck....im not letting the beats fool me, i have an acute ear (and a very good sound system) when it comes to listening to music. im a fan of good music man, i dont care what genre it is. when im listening to a song, i take in everything from the lyrics, the beat, the persons voice, everything. and to me, rick ross made a great CD, definitely in the top 3 released in mainstream rap this year. yea, hes got a lot of money behind him, but my point was that Jay-Z wouldnt invest all this money in somebody with no talent....he released a hit banger for the summer, and thats that...

im not trying to sit here and ram this down your throat and make u listen to rick ross, because i can tell you have already formed your opinion about him and it doesnt look like its going to change.....therefore, lets agree to disagree, if u aint feelin Port Of Miami, dont listen to it...and i will continue to keep it in rotation....
