ask Kay Slay, ask Vlad, ask Who Kid, ask Green Lantern, ask Smallz, ask Kool Kid.....you get the picture....it's been goin on for years....you ain't gotta buy them, that's always your option.
I think I was mainly talking about us over here. They've been doing it for years #1 and number two they do theirs with many different artists on it mainly. You for instance pretty much only have yourself on it. Although your flow is hot I think since you didn't come up with the beat you should give it away.....the hardest part was done for you already. I'm not a fan of DJ Vlad either.

I hear you 100% but it's the way the ball is bouncing these days pimp...it's done by ALOT of artists in the bay area now and then some...go to rasputins, you'll see it and they MOVE at a fast rate. Mine move especially well in the south (texas mainly). In Texas Chamillionare, Paul Wall, Mike Jones and tons of others drop them regularly....slowed versions and regular versions....all with Djay's like myself.

Stores regularly call to ask what wholesale is on them so they can pick them up...so if it's so incorrect why they callin to order them? Cause that's the nature of the indie game at this point in time and thats what's hot right now and if you got major flow and can hold a platinum beat down they want it and want ALOT of them. I ain't sayin that these mixtapes gonna be hot 6 months from now because they may be 86'd in just that amount of time...I highly doubt it tho.

It's just alot of listener's & some artists haven't fully grasped the concept yet, don't fully understand it and don't agree with it. That's part of music mane...different strokes for different folks...you gotta do what works for you and for me personally right now at this exact moment...this is working and keepin me hot on the streets and in some major regions. I can't speak for the other bay cats like Cellski, Balance, Dash, Frontline or any of them but I know that's how I really seen they all had major talent was hearing them over some industry shit and being really impressed.

I feel that, it's just the part I hate is that we catch on to something here in the Bay and we do it to DEATH. Hence the compilations. I think mixtapes have introduced alot of mediocre talent into the game and it actually makes it harder for those of you that are hot in the Bay to get a proper shine on.

^AGREED 100000%. Couldn't have said it better my damn self.....good chop Sav. That's why you don't see me on everyone's mixtapes...I turn more down than anything. I haven't fucked with HC2C VOL.3 for that same reason...put that thang on the back burner.

I don't understand the "mixtapes" out here either, because they aren't really that. I mean, they obviously keep the artist on the street, but they shouldn't be called "mixtapes" cause they just aren't. Mixtapes actually feature a LOAD of artists (all apart), exclusive tracks, and a lot of them tend to be 100% original material. I noticed the word "compilation" isn't used anymore, but everything is a mixtape, that's why I don't understand it. So instead of "New compilation coming", it says "new mixtape coming"...but it still says....

Featuring: San Quinn, Willy Hen, Fully Loaded, Balance, Frontline, E-A Ski, Brotha Lynch Hung, Snoop Dogg, Young Buck, TayDaTay, O.Z, Mista Cane & Arsen, Young Noble Of The Outlawz, JT Tha BIgga Figga, Jay Tee from N2DEEP, Hollow Tip, Nasty Nate, Black C of RBL Posse, and MANY MANY MORE....

I mean, it's all good, I can't knock the hustle, but it just doesn't make sense to me. These are all more like full length albums featuring a shitload of cats but with one main group or person being focused on. Why not just call 'em "Compilations"?? I have a New York mixtape in my car actually and I was listening to it yesterday, it had what were then "new" and/or "exclusive" tracks by Ja Rule, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, 50, etc. etc. All original songs...

I mean, if it works, I can't knock it, I just don't understand it. Cats are going to beat it to death with a stick just like they did with compilations.

I buy mixtapes every tuesday...by some of the industry's top djay's and they most certainly are not all original...they are well known artists bustin over other well known artists beats. And the topper is they are more and more becoming SINGLE artist focused...hence the new MA$E mixtape, JADA mixtape, FLIP mixtape, YOUNG BUCK mixtape and then some. I've dug in deep to this side of the game trust me....it may not be like that in the bay, but that's not the games fault...it's some of the artists & some of the djays...it is what you make it.

Good Chop.

i dont have a problem with mixtapes.i just dont fuck with'em.i fa'sho wont buy'em.the only one i got that i SLUMP is PSD's cus hes one of my favorite artist.what i see with the mixtape thing over here in Nor Cal is a bunch, not all,but a bunch of mothafuckas that found an easy, cheap and excepted way to drop somethin.most of these cats wont ever drop a legitimate album.they just go this easy way to say " Aye look,i got a cd".but if thats ya thing then do it.i wont knock ya hustle, but i wont buy it either.theres so much garbage out there and this just contributes to it....

Good post Mark7.

Foul Mouth - I agree with you brotha. You have to keep workin your original shit at the same time or the mixtape grind means absolutely nothing. I have 2 full lengths in the works...one completed 100% and the other in process now...with heavy Production coming from Sean T so thangs is goin severly in the positive direction on this end...and a bigger distro deal in the near future as well that will be discussed later. Solid post homie.

You and DJ Vlad appear to be a couple of the few then. I'm not a rap historian but the mixtape concept was mainly an East Coast thing as far as I can see. When we were doing compilations with Herm out the ass, they were still doing mixtapes. 8 years ago, half of these dudes weren't even rapping here in the Bay, we were selling dope or in High School or something. I was putting together mixed slow jam tapes in 1990 but that doesn't mean that this shit isn't getting old. However I had to jump into the fray and put my own out. I'm a battle rapper by trade so alot of this shit doesn't impress me I guess I was bored.
