But even if we have different content, and are not super banged out on songs, what's our style to the rest of the world. I KNOW our style and culture, but what is the rest of the world going to think of US. That's all I'm sayin'. I'm not sayin' be different, we can't be anything but Dago niggaz, but we need to find what makes us unique, and it might be right in front of our faces, and we don't even know it yet.
I was listenin to 98.9 today, and after they played E-40's new shit, they started talkin' about the hyphy movement, and how it's blowin' up in the streets, the club, on mtv, and they were sayin' how the industry thinks it's going be the next big thing, and blow up like crunk did. Then they started naming all the Bay "used to be" underground artist like, Keek da Sneak, r.i.p Mac Dre, Mistah Fab and some more niggaz, on mainstream radio. Shit the Bay has the hyphy and the Thizz shit goin' now. It's a gang of Dago niggaz talkin' about thizzin in their songs now. And if you think about it, every area that blew up recently had a movement, a style, and a sound connected to that area. And some of the rappers that blew up, were really not the tight, it's just the movement got em' over. I'm not sayin' let's come up with a gimmik. I'm just tryin' to get niggaz thinkin' a little beyond what we've already been doin, and add a lil' somethin' to it.
And if we're followin' LA as far as bangin' goes, then the all of us is following New York, cuz we're rappin'. My whole point was the "PERCEPTION" of the rest of the world is going to "THINK" we're followin' LA with how we dress, rap etc, but that's really our culture too, but since we're not known for that to the rest of the world, they're going to "think" we're following them. Don't get it twisted, I'm NOT sayin' we're following LA. It's just the outsiders perception that I'm talkin' about, and we need outsiders to blow up...

The south stay wearing t shirts and talking gangsta shit atleast this new gangsta rap south....problem is....the industry has become all about gimmicks whether its crunk or chopped and screwed itll be hyphy for a minute...all these things are real and rep the areas they are from but when the industry takes control of it it becomes a gimmick...SD doesnt really have its own gimmick too many transplants from the military...we have the weather the broads the gangs...all things LA has...but in my opinion theres nothing new under the sun so if our shit is on point then the day will come that our shit blows up...lets hope Mitch is right and he can lead the way starting with my 28th birthday(MAY 16th)
Ya'll niggaz down here in Dago keep pushin and make real music. I'm not with all that mainstream shit anyway. From a BAY perspective, Dago is no where near comparison of L.A. Dago does have it's own identity but its just hard to recognize if you've been here your whole life. You got alot of niggaz not from here that's new to it mixing in with niggaz that grew to it. But from the outside looking in dago is very unique.

Im like Moj, I spent 4 yrs in Dago but am from the bay area. I spent time working around Southeast but dont really know the hoods all that well.
There were a couple of points I wanted to make though that no one has really brought up. When a lot of people think of San Diego, they think sunshine and beaches, they dont really think of Bs and Cs too much, but whats the matter with that? The beach is crackin out there! I love hittin up Mission or PB and gettin fucked up talkin to women in bikinis. There really something wrong with that?! A lot of rap deals with negativity, but maybe the answer is in positivity. Look at the hyphy movement in the bay, sure a lot of the lyrics are still about head bustin and gangsterism, but in general its a happier tone. The music is upbeat, its about partying, doin drugs, pimpin women etc. I think a lot of rappers miss their mark when they try to do only gangster music, because theres thousands of rappers out there who are gangsters and do gangster music. The culture, imo with my four years there, is a little more laidback and party atmosphere then the bay area...why not capitalize on that.
Locally I would agree unity and better production would greatly help, but I think another idea would be to hook up with people from the Bay and from LA...bring a California vibe to the whole thing, not a SD, LA, Bay Area vibe, not a Socal, Norcal vibe, but a vibe that encompasses everything we got since we are the best state, the most culture, history, etc. People around the country and around the world try and be like us...its Californication.

I believe you just have to be yourself and put out some GOOD MUSIC and the idenitiy will follow, because to be honest every rapper from ever different part of the U.S. basically talks about the same stuff but put their own flavor on it. The South is in the Spotlight, Why? Are they really talking about anything different? Hell No, they just put their own style into it. Jeezy and T.I. are both doing their thing in a major way, because of their own style and flow. They aint talking about nothing but selling drugs "Snowman" "Traping". San Diego also has its own style, yeah we all no where B's and C's came from but so what, thats everywhere now. Like stated before L.A. aint S.D. and S.D. aint L.A. Before I start listening to S.D. rap "WrongKind in particular" I never heard "The Hound City" before are people using terms like "Crosstowners" to describe their Enemies, are yelling out "Klack, Klack" and "Yeah Dat", etc. etc. So basically what Im trying to say is its all the same in every place, what pulls you out the crowd to be recognized (musically) its being able to put your own style on something already in existance and make it yours, and put out GREAT MUSIC that cant be denied.
I really dont think we should be STRIVING to get an identity. Thats like goin to school TRYIN to be with the in crowd IMO. People who are lost in this world do that.
