I'm almost there too... but be glad we are getting older... the alternative is that you would be dead.

If you look at it that way, it's not that bad lol

I think I'm going through some pre-30 crisis where I look back on the last 10 years with disappointment at how little I did with the opportunities I had and dread at where my life is headed. Trying to dig my heels into the sand to keep it from happening but feel like it is no use.

I think that's normal and a lot of people who run into their 30s have that.
I think I have this as well when I look back.

I actually don't have anything to show for at the moment except the person being that I am.
no house, no job etc. That's why I am planning to go to SE Asia for about ten months after the summer (could be more or less I don't have a clue yet. As long as I am there). Just traveling around be some kind of a bum there and think about what I really want in life. What kind of job etc.
I used to work IT (pretty good aswell) but no personal satisfaction. Now I know that for my job I need some personal satisfaction (this does not include a big carrier with some company working 9 to 5 in a office) or I will feel like this the rest of my life I am afraid...

Someone told me once 'if you look back, you turn your back on the future' good saying though.

You have a college degree? Why not teach your language in asia. I was just looking into it and for a single guy with a college degree looking for adventure in a different country it seems pretty cool. Obviously there is a bit of a demand for native english speakers, but maybe you can use multilingual talents to get a gig?

I don't think my native language will be very much asked for in Asia.. except for Indonesia maybe..

But I could teach English as well I run into a couple of students when I was in Medan they asked me all kinds of questions, this was an assignment from their English teacher. He wrote all the questions on paper for them in English. I looked at the paper. Took a pen and started marking all kinds of crazy errors in there. lmao.

My plan is to go drifting through Asia first. Then hit up Australia and New Zealand and work there. I won't be making so much money so I can save up to continue my trip but I would be making enough money to extend my stay.
(or one of the Australian members around here could hit me up with a better job then picking apples, hint hint).

Oh no by the way. I don't have any degree. Just a lot of experience working with computers. I am MSCE certified though.
I am not single at the moment but my girl is collateral .. sort of speak.. it does sounds harsh and I do like her a lot but this is something I just must have done once in my life. And now would be the perfect time for it (except for having a gf).
In my opinion everybody should do a backpacking trip once in their life.

I've seen a ticket to Mumbai and start from there for 350 euro. Not that expensive. Or I could go to Berlin, take the train to Moscow and take the transsibirian from there.. I don't know what's best yet.. I don't even know a route yet.. I didn't think it's that important since I can get almost every visa I need at the border itself..
