Well, it's hard to pick JUST one definitive CD--but out of that list, if forced to pick one, it'd be RBL's RUTHLESS BY LAW.

Why? Well, IMHO, that CD represents just about all "angles" of the game--problems with keeping the cops off your tail ("Bluebird"), situations where you don't want to off someone, but it's the law of the street ("Listen To My Creep", "I Got My Nine", "M.N.O.H.P."), just having fun cruisin' the town ("Bounce To This"), gettin' high ("Pass Me The Zigg Zaggs", "Smoke A Blunt"--both songs work just as well if you're drunk, too), dealin' with those who hate you now 'cause you're a mini-celeb ("Still Ain't Learned"), shakin' off hoodrats ("Dedication"), an acknowledgment of the musical foundation of this gangsta shit ("Funkdafied"), a little old school boasting just for fun ("Feels Good To Be A Gangsta", "The Sound"), some comedy (the skit after "Livin' That Life") and finally, a bit of consciousness (Herm's Outro and "Livin' That Life", which takes on a "I'm in this lifestyle, but I'm not proud of it" tone).

I'm biased, of course, because I just have good memories of shit I did while playing this CD back in '94/'95 (and to be real, I STILL play it quite a bit)! You could probably take any of the CDs listed in the poll and play the same game that I just did, and you'd come up with some interesting results, too. PEACE!

all are classics period
but i pick the E40 because to me he's the best lyricist (most creative, too many slang) from the bay and because the production on this album is just perfect (with many major producers from the bay) and it also contains famous featurings as 2Pac, all the sick wid it camp, ...

Nice poll. Hard ones to choose from!

I honestly think it depends on what album category you're looking for.

Too $hort and Ant Banks I think are the godfathers of Bay Area Hip Hop. Nobody commin outta here in the gangster/hustler category would be anybody without $hort Dog!

Digital Underground, Souls of Mischief, Hieroglyphics, Mystic Journeymen, Blackalicious, and some of them hippy ass dreadlock dudes commin out of Haight Ashbury rep the Alternative Hip Hop scene. So if you like how they rep the bay then that's your area!

Then There's MC Hammer, E-40, and 2Pac, who officially put the Bay on the map on a commercial scale.

And in terms of Networking, hustling the product, and repping what it is today, there's JT.

I picked an answer, but there are many ways the Bay is repped!
