Tragik: If the music strikes me, it strikes me. I do NOT think a female rapper is gonna out do the men at that mannish shit, but I think she can put her own twist on it and bubble. Right now, most rappers aint talkin about shit. Its not like the late 80's or early '90's when it was more of a conscious rap thing. Nowdays, fools is talkin about bubble-gum flavors and their new deck of Uno cards. So I think that if a female rapper is talkin about somethin different that grabs people's attention (assuming she has skills), then she will do very well. I listened to your tracks and I hear you have talent. Gotta be refined, though. Your lyrics are pretty heavy.
Bottom line, a latina can make it if she's unique and not just doing the same thing everybody else is doing. If there;s no difference between you and a male rapper, I don't think people will pick you JUST because you're female. feel me. But if you have your own twist/style/content, you probably will stand out and your being female could actually help.
LAST thing:.... stay away fromt hose GOT-damn mixtapes. When I hear a mixtape I usually think of the original song and the original lyricist. They are designed to do that. But if I'm thinking about some male rapper and then I hear a female voice, it makes me crings. Just like when somebody sings over a Marvin Gaye or Al Green beat. The FIRST thing I say is, "They BET not fuck up my shit." ya hip. Those mixtapes, man.... I don't know. It already makes people compare you to somebody else right off the bat. If you are trying to show you got new flavor and style, you may not want to be connected to some beat that gets somebody thinkin about somebody else.
Keep at it; cultivate that talent. Any support you need, just let me know.
@ Sticky Green: "rappin is for men"
Man, most of these rappers is still wearin diapers and can't tell me a MUTHAFUCKIN thang. Most of em is square as a pool table and twice as green. Shit, any monkey can look like a champ with a pocket full of money and a suit on... but take away all that shit and he still a fuckin monkey. A lot of rappers are just caricatures. They really don't know whatthe hell they are talkin about (I'm talkin about the hard-core rappers) and when you sit and take away that mic and front money, they are just a kid. If rappin is for men, then a lot of people need to quit.
reverb, though. as long as you talkin about the real as you see it and been through it...THEN it doesn't matter what gender or color you are. That's when people say, "That white boy is spittin some real shit." Or, "That muthafucka right there is 100 proof." We (the public) can feel when its real. ANybody has a chance in this game if they do it real rather than as some little cartoon character talkin like shit about shit FOR shit.
Women will buy a CD faster than men. If a female rapper is good and strikes a chord in these women.... it's possible she could cater to a whole different (and more supportive) audience. But she gotta be good, and her beats have to be tight as fuck.
